Kerala HC finds video containing social activist’s remarks regarding Sabarimala deities offensive, directs Meta to temporarily block it

Posted on September 10, 2026 By admin

The Kerala High Court has directed Meta to temporarily remove the URL containing the video of social activist Sunny M. Kapikad, finding offensive material in his speech regarding Sabarimala deities Lord Ayyappa and Malikapurathamma.

Justice G. Girish viewed the video in court and held that the continuance of the video on social media would definitely hurt the religious beliefs of Sabarimala worshippers.

YouTuber Rahul Easwar, the petitioner, informed the court that he would find if there were other URLs containing the same video and provide them for removal as well.

Apart from the removal of the content from social media, Mr. Easwar had also sought the registration of a criminal case against Mr. Kapikad for allegedly attempting to promote disharmony between religious groups, making assertions that harm national integration, and deliberately outraging religious feelings under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
