BRICS Summit: police review security cover;

Posted on September 3, 2026 By admin

The Delhi Police on Thursday held an inter-state coordination meeting with senior police officials to finalise security and traffic arrangements ahead of the BRICS Summit, scheduled from September 11 to 13. Meanwhile, the government has declared September 11 a public holiday.

The meeting, chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, was attended by senior police officers from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh. The discussion focused on coordination among law enforcement agencies regarding traffic restrictions, border checks, monitoring of suspicious elements, and anti-drone measures.

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu declared September 11 a holiday for all Delhi government offices, autonomous bodies, and public sector undertakings to ensure smooth summit arrangements.

With Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan set to host the main summit from September 12 to 13, civic agencies have initiated micro-action plans to beautify designated areas. The security grid is being expanded from delegate hotels to all connecting routes, and the Indira Gandhi International Airport has been placed on high alert.

The Delhi Traffic Police also conducted full-scale motorcade rehearsals. Vehicles within the convoy have been fitted with GPS devices to map precise movements between the airport, hotels, and the venue.

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has deployed additional manpower for sanitation, decoration, and encroachment removal, targeting completion by September 7. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also deployed round-the-clock teams to clear stray cattle, dogs, and monkeys along the designated routes.
