Five Class VIII students arrested under POCSO Act for harassing schoolmate in Tharuvaikulam

Posted on September 2, 2026 By admin

Five Class VIII students of Government Higher Secondary School in Tharuvaikulam were arrested under the POCSO Act for allegedly subjecting a schoolmate to harassment.

According to an official from the school education department, the five students had allegedly been harassing a Class VIII student and threatened him with further harassment if he informed his parents or teachers. However, a few days ago, the students allegedly harassed him again on the school premises and a teacher who came to know of the incident informed the student’s parents.

The victim’s parents subsequently lodged a complaint at the Vilathikulam All Women Police Station. The police conducted an inquiry and found that the students had allegedly harassed the victim

The police registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested the five class VIII students. They were produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Thoothukdui and subsequently lodged at an observation home for boys in Tirunelveli on Tuesday.

The official further added that arrangements have been made to provide counselling for school students across Thoothukudi district to prevent further incidents.
