HC dismisses bail petitions of accused in Palani Math land case

Posted on August 31, 2026 By admin

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday dismissed the bail petitions filed by the accused in the case of fraudulent registration of Palani Math land.

Justice K. Murali Shankar dismissed the bail petitions filed by four accused in the case: Suspended Sub-Registrar Justin Manikandan Subramanian, D. Murugadass, who sold the land; and K. Vellathurai and D. Sethupathi, the land buyers.

In July, CB-CID arrested Murugadass, Vellaidurai, Sethupathi and S. Anwardeen who reportedly facilitated the deal. Subsequently, in August, the CB-CID arrested Justin Manikandan Subramanian and Jeyaprakash, a document writer.

Anwardeen who was accused of facilitating the fraudulent registration of Palani Math land died in judicial custody on the night of August 7. He had complained of uneasiness upon arrival at the Madurai Central Prison, after being in the custody of the CB-CID for being questioned in connection with the case. He was taken to Government Rajaji Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Recently, a Division Bench of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court dismissed the petitions seeking a CBI probe into the Palani Math land case. The court took note of the CB-CID’s status report on the progress of the investigation and directed it to proceed further.
