ISHRAE to make select primary schools net-zero energy centres

Posted on August 20, 2026 By admin

The Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE), which is organising a three-day  ‘Cool Conclave’, which will conclude in Coimbatore on Saturday (August 22), is encouraging all its chapters to adopt a rural or semi-urban primary school and transform it into a net zero energy facility.

According to a press release, this is taken up under its ‘K-12 Net Zero Energy School Initiative’ and is overseen by a dedicated committee.

The market for HRAE is projected to reach $29.4 billion by 2030 at a CAGR of 16.3%. The society is driving adoption of energy-efficient technologies. It is collaborating with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on the Energy Conservation Sustainable Building Code, and it supports the country’s Net-Zero 2070 goal. It is also an active member of the India Cooling Coalition.

The ISHRAE, present in 60 cities through 54 chapters and sub-chapters and 380 engineering and architecture institutions, will continue to focus on education, the release said.

It offers certified professional courses cover HVAC servicing, HVAC drafting, HVAC design, and HVAC commissioning, apart from specialised courses such as cold storage design and operation course.

The event in Coimbatore has brought together HVAC professionals from across the country, the release added.
