Western Hyderabad’s construction boom is set to get a dedicated waste-management push, with a new Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste transfer station inaugurated at Gowlidoddi in Serilingampally Zone of Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Monday. The facility was inaugurated by Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan in the presence of CMC Commissioner G. Srijana and other senior officials.

The facility is expected to serve as a collection and aggregation point for C&D waste generated in Narsingi, Nallagandla, Gachibowli and Madhapur, helping reduce transportation distances and curb indiscriminate dumping of construction debris on roads, drains and open spaces.

The facility, established by Re Sustainability, will complement the C&D waste processing facility already operating at Jeedimetla. By providing a transfer point closer to the major waste-generating areas in western Hyderabad, the CMC expects to enable faster lifting of debris, improve vehicle utilisation and reduce transportation costs.

Apart from preventing illegal dumping, the facility is expected to strengthen the collection, transportation, processing and recycling of C&D waste in Cyberabad. It will also facilitate greater recovery and reuse of construction material, potentially reducing dependence on virgin materials.

“C&D waste should be treated as a resource rather than merely as waste. Agencies undertaking CC road and other civil works have been advised to ensure that debris generated during construction is collected and handed over to authorised processing agencies,” said Mr. Ranjan.

He also said the cost of collection, transportation and processing of C&D waste should be incorporated into project and work estimates in accordance with applicable government procedures.

The authorised service provider will offer doorstep collection and processing of C&D waste, with user charges applicable as per prescribed norms.
