76.23% of RSETI trained persons opened enterprises in over three years, says Union government

Posted on August 11, 2026 By admin

Of the 2,957 persons trained by Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI), Ujire, in Dakshina Kannada during the last three financial years and till this June, 2,254 persons (76.23%) are settled or established their enterprises, according to the Union government.

They were trained under Entrepreneurship Development Programs (EDPs) conducted by RSETI, Jayant Chaudhary, Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, told the Lok Sabha on Monday.

The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the RSETI scheme in the field of skill development for the welfare of rural poor youth under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) for their gainful employment and to eradicate poverty across the country. RSETI is a poverty alleviation programme under the DAY-NRLM for rural youth in the age group of 18-50. The objective of RSETI is self employment and micro-enterprise development with a mandate of minimum 70% settlement (including maximum 10% wage employment) and credit-linkage facilitation and hand holding support to trainees for up to two years after the completion of training. The RSETI scheme has been under implementation since 2008-09, the Minister said.

He replied to an unstarred question by member Capt. Brijesh Chowta.

The Minister said that the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is implementing the National Livestock Mission Entrepreneurship Development Programme. It is a credit-linked, demand-driven scheme that provides capital subsidy for establishment of livestock-based enterprises. During the last three years and the current year, three projects have been approved in Dakshina Kannada. The projects are expected to benefit 65 farmers and expected to generate 14 employment.

The Minister said under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), 1,270 persons were given EDP training in the district during the last three financial years and the current year.

PMEGP is a Central sector scheme generating employment opportunities primarily in rural areas by assisting prospective entrepreneurs in setting up new micro enterprises in the non farm sector across the country.

The Minister said of 1,959 candidates trained under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKY 4.0) in the district during 2024-26, 1,550 candidates were certified. The focus of the scheme is to empower trained candidates to chose their varied career path and they are suitably oriented for the same through On-Job Training (OJT) embedded industry relevant skill courses, the Minister said.
