Supriya Sule’s meeting with PM sets off speculation over NCP(SP)’s stance on delimitation Bill

Supriya Sule’s meeting with PM sets off speculation over NCP(SP)’s stance on delimitation Bill

The meeting between Nationalist Congress Party-Sharadchandra Pawar (NCP-SP) MPs and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (August 10, 2026) triggered fresh speculation about a possible shift in the Sharad Pawar-led NCP’s position on delimitation.

The party’s working president, Supriya Sule, however, claimed the delegation had discussed issues concerning Maharashtra. “We have discussed Maharashtra issues,” Ms. Sule said after the meeting.

All eight NCP(SP) Lok Sabha MPs, led by Ms. Sule, met Mr. Modi at the Prime Minister’s Office in Parliament.

The meeting, which lasted around 15-20 minutes, came amid uncertainty over the proposed delimitation exercise and speculation that the NCP may change its position and support the Bill.

In Mumbai, party spokesperson Mahesh Tapase sought to dispel speculation that the meeting had any political significance or was linked to delimitation. The delegation had raised constituency-specific issues, including drought, onion prices, and pollution in the Chandrabhaga river, Mr. Tapase said.

The party’s position on delimitation would be decided only after the government introduced a Bill in Parliament, he said. “There is no proposal or discussion on delimitation in Parliament today. First, the Bill should come,” he said, adding that the issue would then be discussed within the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc.

On July 22, 2026, Mr. Pawar and Ms. Sule had met the Prime Minister. Following that meeting, Mr. Pawar had said they discussed students’ demands over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) paper leak, farmers’ issues, water management, and education.

“The Honourable Prime Minister gave assurances of positive and concrete measures on all these issues,” Mr. Pawar had said after the meeting, in a post on social media platform X.
