Father of the 26-year-old victim of custodial death, Akash Delison, petitioned Sivaganga District Collector P. Akash on Monday (August 10, 2026), demanding a copy of the final charge sheet in the case and the immediate arrest of the police personnel responsible for his son’s death.

A. Radhakrishnan of Krishnarajapuram Colony in Manamadurai said in the petition that Akash Delison and his friend Dinesh were intercepted by 10 to 15 plainclothes police personnel in Kilangaduvur area on March 6, 2026.

According to the petition, the police personnel subjected the two young men to severe beating, allegedly struck Akash below his right knee with an iron rod, breaking his leg, and subjected him to brutal torture. Akash succumbed to his injuries on the morning of March 8. Following the incident, the CB-CID registered a case under Crime Number 1/2026.

Months after the incident, the family members said, they were facing systemic roadblocks in pursuing legal accountability. Mr. Radhakrishnan said although the CB-CID had filed the final charge sheet before the Sivaganga PCR Court, authorities had withheld issuing the copy to the victim’s family. He added that the officials had brushed off their requests by directing them to approach the court directly, where the court staff had reportedly delayed allotting a formal criminal case number.

The petitioner also expressed outrage that the police personnel allegedly responsible for the fatal assault on his son had not been arrested.

Despite submitting a petition on July 20, when the authorities reportedly assured of action within four days, the family had received neither the charge sheet copy nor any news of arrests, he added.
