Farmers of the Damodarahalli panchayat in Pochampalli submitted a petition to the District Collector seeking desilting, removal of encroachments from Sadinayakanpatty lake and revive its storage capacity.
According to the farmers, the lake’s tank has been rendered to disuse because of encroachments and siltation. The tank’s storage capacity was completely reduced despite it being a significant source of irrigation for the farmlands abutting the lake. The farmers have demanded complete desilting of the lake and its channels, deepening of the channels, repairing the shutters, strengthening the embankments, and enabling increased water storage capacity of the tank.
According to the farmers, desilting will increase the storage capacity, remove encroachments, help augment water table for the surrounding farm lands.
Farmers also pointed out that silting of the lake will benefit farmers in need of fertile silt to improve their soil nutrition.
Among the main demands of the farmers was also a plea for a new canal for channelling KRP dam waters to Sadinayakanpatty lake. According to the farmers, if the water from KRP dam is channelled to the Sadinayakanpatty lake twice a year, it will help fill the lake.
