The Bihar Cabinet on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) gave its nod to run 16 Medical Colleges & Hospitals under Private Public Partnership (PPP) model in order to expand quality healthcare services in the State.
It approved the appointment of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), a multinational professional services network headquartered in London, as the Transaction Advisor for the operation of 16 brownfield medical colleges and hospitals (including dental colleges and hospitals) of the State under the PPP model, Cabinet Secretariat Department’s Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Arvind Kumar Chaudhary told reporters here in a post cabinet briefing.
It also decided to issue an LOA (Letter of Agreement) to PwC, besides sanctioning₹8.27 crore for the purpose. This initiative will further strengthen modern healthcare facilities in the State and provide better medical education and healthcare services in the state, he added.
Out of 16 medical colleges and hospitals which will be run on a PPP model, four medical colleges and hospitals at Pawapuri, Rahui (both in Nalanda district), Madhepura and Purnea are currently operational, while 12 medical colleges are under construction.
The 12 under-construction colleges are at — Samastipur, Saran, Madhubani, Vaishali, Bhojpur, Buxar, Siwan, Begusarai, Sitamarhi, Jamui, Munger and Supaul.
It was among 17 decisions taken at today’s Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
In another decision, the Cabinet also decided to establish a Sports Science Centre (High Performance Sports Training and Injury Centre) at Rajgir Campus of the State Sports Academy, Mr. Chaudhary said.
The approval has been granted for the establishment, operation, maintenance, human resources and arrangement of state-of-the-art equipment for the Sports Science Centre, he said, adding that the decision is an important step towards providing world-class sports resources and training facilities to the athletes of Bihar.
It also granted approval for the successful organization of the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign in 2026, Mr. Chaudhary said adding that ₹6.12 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose.
The campaign is an initiative towards reaching every individual with sentiments of patriotism, national unity, and respect for the Tricolour, while ensuring widespread participation of citizens, he added.
The Cabinet also approved the transfer of five acres of land located at Piprakothi in East Champaran district to the Ministry of Education, Government of India, for the setting up a Kendriya Vidyalaya, with the option to renew the lease for 30 years.
Besides, it also decided to transfer 43.98 acres of land located at Rajauli in Nawada district for establishment of Bihar Industrial Security Force (BISF). The land has been transferred to BISF free of cost.
The Cabinet also gave its approval for creation of a total of 171 posts of non-gazetted category in the district and additional sessions judge courts for establishing 19 additional exclusive special courts for the expeditious disposal of pending cases under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, in West Champaran (Bettiah), Madhubani, Bhojpur (Ara), Siwan, Araria, Supaul, Khagaria, Jehanabad, Buxar, Jamui, Kaimur (Bhabhua), Katihar, Sitamarhi, Munger, Madhepura, Banka, Sheikhpura, Aurangabad, and Lakhisarai.
Similarly, it also approved the creation of 27 posts of non-gazetted category in the district and additional sessions judge courts for establishing three additional exclusive courts at Purnea, Bhagalpur and Gaya Ji for expeditious disposal of pending cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Acts.
It also gave its administrative approval of ₹102.22 crore for Jamalpur Water Supply Project and ₹177.72 crore for the Munger Water Supply Project under the Centre-sponsored Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT 2.0). These schemes will ensure clean and regular drinking water supply in both cities.
