Karur exporters welcome State budget

Karur exporters welcome State budget

Posted on August 5, 2026 By admin

The Karur Textile Manufacturers Exporters’ Association (KTMEA) has said that the State Budget would help strengthen the infrastructure of the textile sector.

P. Gopalakrishnan, president of the association, said that the budget allocation of ₹1,678 crore for Handlooms and Textiles, ₹2,022 crore for Labour Welfare and Skill Development, and ₹4,414 crore for the Industries Department, along with announcements relating to the Tirupur Textile Technology Centre, Technical Textiles Transformation Scheme, Loom Modernisation Scheme, SIPCOT industrial parks, logistics infrastructure, Green Energy Corridor, power infrastructure, AI initiatives, and T.N. Single Window 3.0, would enhance the long-term competitiveness of State’s textile industry and attract fresh investments.

The Government’s emphasis on skill development, industrial infrastructure, logistics, renewable energy, and ease of doing business, all of which would indirectly benefit export-oriented textile clusters such as Karur, was commendable.

However, as one of India’s largest home textile export clusters, Karur expected a few dedicated initiatives to further strengthen its global competitiveness. The cluster currently produced textile goods worth nearly ₹10,000 crore. Of it, exports alone constituted around ₹7,000 crore. It provided direct employment to over 2 lakh people, predominantly women. An announcement on Karur-based textile clusters should have been made in the budget, he said.
