RAJANNA SIRCILLA

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao has directed the officials to intensify water conservation measures and expedite the construction of  borewell recharge structures and farm ponds under the ‘Telangana Jalasiri’ programme to mitigate the potential adverse effects of El Nino. Mr. Rao, who is the district in-charge minister, was speaking at a review meeting on the possible impact of El Nino at the Integrated District Offices Complex in Sircilla of Rajanna Sircilla district on Thursday. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar was present. The minister asked officials to create awareness among farmers about alternative crops that require less water and ensure implementation of measures outlined in the district-specific contingency plan. He also directed Mission Bhagiratha officials prepare an action plan for judicious utilisation of the available water in reservoirs to meet drinking water needs until  July next year.

Earlier, the Ministers along with Socail Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, participated in various programmes in Vemulawada. They laid the foundation stone for modernisation of Vemulawada bus station at an estimated cost of ₹ 1.62 crore and flagged off a new bus service on the Vemulawada-Korutla-Basar route. The transport minister later launched city bus services in Karimnagar.
