Girl injured in roof collapse undergoes surgeries at MGMGH

Posted on July 28, 2026 By admin

Doctors at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) in Tiruchi saved the life of a teenaged girl who suffered serious injury after a roof collapsed at Mariamman Temple in Samayapuram recently.

According to an official press release on Tuesday, the accident occurred on March 29, when the roof of a devotees’ resting area inside the temple premises collapsed.

The 14-year-old girl suffered a fractured crush injury pelvis and severely damaged blood vessels during the accident, and was rushed to the TAEI Red Zone Government Hospital in Tiruchi.

Emergency surgery was done by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors under the guidance of dean S. Kumaravel.

After the initial life-saving emergency surgery, a vascular reconstruction procedure was carried out on the femoral artery to restore blood circulation to the patient’s right leg. She remained under observation in the post-operative anaesthesia intensive care unit for 42 days.

During her recovery period, she also underwent multiple plastic reconstructive surgeries of the pelvis.

The hospital stated that after a full recovery, the patient had since been discharged and resumed going to school.
