Greater Chennai Police Commissioner A. Amalraj on Tuesday launched an anti-drug awareness campaign at Dr. Ambedkar Government Arts College in Vyasarpadi. He unveiled a new anti-drug logo and inaugurated a signature campaign, with around 6,000 college and school students taking a pledge against drug abuse.
As part of the State government’s intensified efforts to eradicate drugs under the directions of the Chief Minister, the Greater Chennai Police has been conducting anti-drug awareness programmes across the city. The campaign aims to educate members of the public, particularly youth and students, about the dangers of narcotic substances and prevent them from falling prey to drug addiction.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Amalraj highlighted the serious health risks and life-threatening consequences of drug abuse, stating that addiction could jeopardise a person’s future. He urged students to actively support the mission of making Chennai a drug-free city.
As part of the programme, students staged a silent play titled ‘Choose Life, Not Drugs’, highlighting the harmful effects of narcotics. The event was attended by Additional Commissioner of Police (North) Kapil Kumar C. Saratkar, Joint Commissioner of Police (North) M. Manohar, Pulianthope Deputy Commissioner of Police Samay Singh, and others.
