‘Adopt electric cooking, mobility for clean energy transition’

‘Adopt electric cooking, mobility for clean energy transition’

Posted on July 19, 2026 By admin

The Centre has urged all States, including Telangana, to promote the large-scale adoption of electric cooking and electric mobility as part of India’s clean energy transition, while calling for collective efforts to achieve the country’s Net Zero emissions target by 2070.

Addressing the National Workshop on Renewable Consumption Obligation (RCO) in Hyderabad on Sunday, Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Milind Deore said India had achieved 297.37 GW of installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources as of June 30, accounting for nearly 59.5% of its target of 500 GW by 2030.

Describing electric cooking and electric mobility as key pillars of the country’s long-term energy strategy, Mr. Deore said electric cooking could reduce household cooking costs by 25-35% while lowering dependence on imported LPG and LNG.

He stressed the need to promote affordable, energy-efficient and safe cooking technologies and advocated the distribution of induction cooktops to households, institutions and anganwadi centres. He appreciated Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) for promoting clean energy through the distribution of induction cooktops and utensils across States.
