The Bannerghatta police on Saturday arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly murdering his 70-year-old grandmother after months of disputes over his unemployment.
The accused, identified as Prajwal, a resident of K.S. Layout, killed his grandmother, Gowramma, at her house in Kenchagoravayyanadoddi near Bannerghatta, where he had been staying to look after her, as her husband was away on work.
According to investigators, Gowramma had repeatedly urged Prajwal, a college dropout, to find a stable job. The police said the discussions frequently turned into arguments.
On Tuesday night, Gowramma was said to have once again spoken to Prajwal about his future before going to bed. The police said that around 2 a.m., Prajwal took a kitchen knife and fatally attacked her while she was asleep.
After the incident, Prajwal allegedly returned to his home in K.S. Layout, confessed the crime to his mother, and fled. He was later traced to a hideout near Bannerghatta and was arrested on Wednesday.
The police have registered a case.
