Ahead of FIFA World Cup final, Kozhikode police announce public safety measures

Posted on July 18, 2026 By admin

The police have announced special measures to ensure public safety and maintain law and order during the FIFA World Cup final and subsequent celebrations in Kozhikode, Kerala.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Kozhikode City police said dangerous bike racing, stunt riding, drunk driving, speeding, traffic violations, bursting of firecrackers in a manner that causes public nuisance, raising provocative or hate-filled slogans, and any other activities that disturb public peace have been strictly prohibited.

Officials warned that strict legal action would be taken against those taking the law into their own hands in the name of celebrations under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Checks intensified

Special police checks and surveillance have been intensified across the city to detect offences such as dangerous driving, using modified silencers that create excessive noise, riding without helmets, triple riding, drunk driving, and obstructing traffic.

The police also said action would be taken against those bursting firecrackers in public places in a manner that endangers life and property or raising slogans that could disrupt communal harmony or public order. No activity that causes fear, inconvenience or danger to the public will be permitted, the statement said.

Parents and vehicle owners were also asked to ensure that no one, including minors, engages in traffic violations or other unlawful activities. The police urged football fans to celebrate the outcome of the match peacefully, abide by the law, and respect the rights of others.
