Belagavi-based Anthropic Software Technology Company, that is engaged in a legal battle with U.S.-based Anthropic PBC over trademark violations, has served a notice to the American entity through the Hague convention mechanism.

The Belagavi-based IT company has claimed that it has right of prior usage as it was registered before the US firm. “Due to this, we have suffered marketplace confusion and reputational impact due to the similarity in branding,” Mohammad Ayyaz Mulla, founder, Anthropic STC said.

“We have submitted all relevant documents to the commercial court in Belagavi. Our firm was registered in Indian registry office much before the US firm was registered in the USA or in India. The US firm has been using our trademark and passing it off as its own. As per court regulations, we have succeeded in serving a legal notice on Anthropic PBC in San Francisco through the Hague Convention mechanism. This was a lengthy and procedurally demanding international legal process. That is why, we view the successful delivery as a significant procedural milestone,” Mr. Mulla said.

“As of now, the respondents have not accepted these allegations, and the issues remain subject to determination by the court. We remain determined to pursue our legal rights through due process. We have complete faith in the courts. We are confident that the court will decide the matter on merits.

“The next hearing is scheduled for July 23,” Mr Mulla said.
