The tourist destination of Raja’s seat in Madikeri will be out of bounds for the public from July 9 to 12 in view of the traffic diversions introduced in the town following a landslide that has occurred near KSRTC bus stand.

In view of the landslide triggered in the wake of widespread rains and strong winds across Kodagu district over the last few days, the authorities have diverted all vehicles exiting from the private and KSRTC bus stands to pass through Raja’s seat road.

As the volume of traffic on this road has increased significantly, and with members of the public and tourists parking their vehicles near Raja’s Seat, traffic congestion has become a recurring problem. The heavy crowding in the area has also been causing frequent disruption to the smooth flow of traffic, said a statement from the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

With a larger number of tourists expected over the weekend, there is likely to be a further increase in vehicular traffic and parking along Raja’s seat road. “Moreover, as a school is located on this road, the increased movement and parking of vehicles could pose difficulties for schoolchildren,” the Deputy Commissioner said before exercising powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, Disaster Management Act 2005 and Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Amendment) rules 1990, the parking of vehicles near Raja’s seat has been prohibited while the entry of public and tourists into Raja’s seat has been banned as a precautionary measure from July 9 to 12.
