Unauthorised parking of autorickshaws is the most common offence committed by the drivers in Madurai, say the traffic police.

Madurai City Traffic Police have warned autorickshaw drivers with strigent warning for violating road safety rules.
A statement said that during routine vehicle checks at important junctions and roads, the police have found the autorickshaw drivers flouting the safety rules and causing accidents and inconvenience to other road users.
Among the major offences by the autorickshaw drivers was parking the vehicles at no parking zones. Fine was imposed on 38 autorickshaws for this offence alone.
Besides, the traffic police have booked 22 autorickshaw drivers for drinking and driving.
The police have not spared the three-wheelers for defective number plates and eight autorickshaws were booked.
Drivers of four autorickshaws were booked for overspeeding, 17 drivers for not wearing proper uniform, and four drivers for using mobile phones while driving the vehicles.
On Tuesday, the police mobilised the autorickshaw drivers and conducted an awareness programme. The police asked the drivers to ensure that the vehicles are parked safely while allowing passengers to board and get down from their vehicles.
