BJP Tamil Nadu president Nainar Nagenthran, on Tuesday (June 30, 2026), demanded action against a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA for allegedly distributing rice of poor quality to the people. The rice was distributed to mark the birthday celebrations of TVK founder and Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during a function in Madurai recently.

Expressing shock over the alleged distribution of poor quality rice by Madurai West MLA S.R. Thangapandi, Mr. Nagenthran, in his social media post, further charged that it was a shameful act to distribute welfare measures of the government by publicising it as if it was a personal favour made to the people.

Referring to reports that authorities have sent the rice samples for testing following objections raised by the people, he sought an appropriate enquiry into the incident and if anyone was found responsible, police should initiate action against them.
