The Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) of Avadi City Police seized 22.5 kg of ganja and arrested two persons in separate operations carried out in Ambattur and Red Hills on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off about ganja trafficking, a team led by the Inspector of Ambattur PEW conducted surveillance near Pattaravakkam Railway Station. The police intercepted Ashok, 25, of Maraimalai Nagar, and recovered 12 kg of ganja from his possession. During interrogation, Ashok allegedly confessed that he had procured the contraband from Odisha for distribution in Chennai.
In another operation, Red Hills PEW conducted vehicle checks at the M.A. Nagar check post as part of an anti-narcotics drive. During the inspection, the police stopped Shankar Kumar Yadav, 19, a native of Bihar, and seized 10.5 kg of ganja from his possession.
