AIMIM Corporator disqualified from his post in BMC

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Ritu Tawde on Monday (June 22, 2026) announced that AIMIM’s Shamir Ramzan Patel stands disqualified from his post as Corporator during civic body’s general body meeting. He lost the seat after his caste validity certificate was declared invalid by the District Caste Scrutiny Committee. 

The is second disqualification, after the Shiv Sena (UBT) Corporator Deepak Sawant from ward number 111 (Kanjurmarg) was disqualified over invalidation of the caste certificate that he submitted during the filing nomination for the BMC polls. 

Mayor Ritu Tawde said, “The District Caste Scrutiny Committee declared Patel’s caste certificate invalid, disqualifying his position as a Corporator.”

He had contested on a reserved seat for the Other Backward Classes (OBC).

Mr. Sawant’s disqualification hasd reduced the Shiv Sena (UBT)’s strength in the civic body to 64 from 65.

Mr. Patel represented Ward No. 137 in Govandi. Ayesha Rafiq of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), who came second to Mr. Patel is likely to be elected as Corporator from ward 137.
