Kerala’s secular society will not allow NEP implementation, says CPI(M) State secretariat

Kerala’s secular society will not allow NEP implementation, says CPI(M) State secretariat

Posted on June 17, 2026 By admin

Alleging a Congress-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) deal behind Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan’s decision to go ahead with the PM SHRI scheme, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretariat said here on Wednesday that Kerala’s secular society will not allow the National Education Policy (NEP), ‘which is the agenda of the Sangh Parivar,’ to be implemented in the State like it was done in other Congress-ruled States.

‘UDF must apologise’

“When the PM SHRI scheme was signed, the UDF spread the lie of a CPI(M)-BJP deal. At that time, V.D. Satheesan, K.C. Venugopal and P.K. Kunhalikutty told the people that if the UDF came to power, they would not implement PM SHRI. Earlier, the UDF tried to fan anti-LDF sentiments among religious minorities by spreading propaganda in the name of PM SHRI. The UDF, which tried to gain political advantage by misleading the people, should apologise to the people,” said the CPI(M) statement.

Though the Union government had begun implementing the NEP from 2022 with saffronisation of textbooks and curriculum as its core, the State under the LDF had prepared the curricula by upholding secularism, said the statement.

“The history of the Mughal era is still taught in the Kerala syllabus. The historical truth that Nathuram Vinayak Godse assassinated Mahatma Gandhi has not been changed in the textbook. All this has been changed in the CBSE syllabus. The textbooks in the Congress-ruled States have been saffronised. Will the UDF adopt this model? If so, the government will have to face strong protests,” said the statement.
