AMMA issues show-cause notice to Ansiba Hassan

Posted on June 11, 2026 By admin

In a move that is likely to escalate the internal rift, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has issued a show-cause notice to member and former joint secretary Ansiba Hassan for allegedly tarnishing its image through public statements.

The decision was taken at the AMMA executive committee meeting held on June 3, 2026. Ms. Hassan confirmed the receipt of the notice dated June 10, 2026, signed by association secretary Cuckoo Parameswaran.

“The notice gives me seven days’ time to respond, which I will do after going through it in detail,” she said, while declining to comment whether she found the charges baseless.

The notice stated that the executive committee had taken note of Ms. Hassan’s statements and interviews in the media relating to AMMA and her disputes with certain members. “The executive committee feels that your said action has tarnished the image of the association among the public. The committee felt that the above subject matter could have been amicably resolved within the association by resorting to various remedies available to you as a member of AMMA,” it said.

The committee further observed that her actions had adversely “affected the smooth functioning of the association and also resulted in loss of reputation and goodwill among the public.” As a member, this was deemed a violation of the provisions under Article V and Article V(A) of AMMA’s by-law and amounted to misconduct.

Written explanation

The notice reminded her that, as a member, she was bound to strictly follow the rules and regulations contained in the by-law. “The executive committee therefore decided to seek your written explanation in the matter. Therefore, you are hereby directed to submit your written explanations in the above matter on or before June 17, 2026, failing which further proceedings will be followed,” it concluded.

After having invited Ms. Hassan for a hearing, the show-cause notice signals a clear shift towards the association taking an offensive stance against her. She had earlier insisted on a three-member independent panel and recording of proceedings to appear for any such hearing, pointing out that her accusations were against members of the executive committee, including the president and vice-president. AMMA had even considered forming such a panel, though the notice now indicates that the proposal has been dropped.

Ms. Hassan has lodged a complaint against vice-president Lakshmipriya and a woman sub-inspector of the Thripunithura women’s police station, which was dismissed by the Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner of Police earlier this week. She has also petitioned the Infopark police against AMMA executive committee member Tiny Tom for making communal remarks and disparaging comments in the executive committee’s WhatsApp group.
