Israel says Iran launches missiles at it in first such bombardment since ceasefire in April

Israel said Iran has launched missiles at it in the first such bombardment since a fragile ceasefire took effect in early April, complicating mediation efforts for a deal to end the war.

Iran’s military central command said on Sunday (June 7, 2026) that Israel’s latest strike on the southern Beirut suburbs had “crossed all red lines”, demanding a halt to its campaign in Lebanon.

After the missiles attack at Israel, Israeli military chief Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir vowed on Sunday (June 7) that the military would strike Iran “with force” upon receiving orders.

“The IDF will strike the enemy with force as soon as the green light is given,” Mr. Zamir said in a statement as he conducted a situational assessment, the military said.

Iran Revolutionary Guards’ warning to Israel

“The Israeli army must stop its attacks on southern Lebanon and the suburbs, and if it expands its attacks to that region or responds to Iran’s action, it will face more devastating and regrettable blows,” said General Ali Abollahi, the head of the Khatam al-Anbiya command, without directly mentioning missile salvos that Israel said it was intercepting.

Tehran had warned of retaliation after Israel on Sunday (June 7, 2026) struck Beirut’s southern suburbs in defiance of Washington’s request days ago to stand down.

Israel called it retaliation for the Iranian-backed Hezbollah firing at northern Israel earlier in the day.

Israel’s attack on Beirut came a few days after the Lebanese and Israeli governments agreed to a ceasefire in U.S.-hosted talks, though Hezbollah rejected the deal.

The strike on a residential building killed two people and wounded 20, Lebanon’s Health Ministry said.
