Teachers association urges government to hold special TET without delay

Posted on May 31, 2026 By admin

The Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers Federation (TNGTF) has urged the State government to conduct the Special Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for in-service teachers without delay.

The Supreme Court had recently given teachers in-service an extension of one year to clear the TET, moving the deadline from August 31, 2027, to August 31, 2028, taking into consideration the importance of ensuring continuity in elementary education.

Exam on July 4

The Tamil Nadu government has scheduled the exams for July 4. According to a statement from the association, “Teacher vacancies should be filled from the beginning of the academic year when schools re-opens. The educational welfare of the students should not be affected due to delays in promotions or new appointments.”

General secretary of the association P. Patrick Raymond said quality training, online classes, sample question papers, subject-wise guidelines should be provided through SCERT and DIET so that teachers can face the exam.

“The Tamil Nadu government should immediately take legal and administrative security measures to ensure that the job security and promotion rights of senior teachers who have served for many years are not affected,” he added.

In this regard, the association urged the government to announce an action plan to protect both teachers and students, taking into account the practical implications of the Supreme Court’s decision.
