Andhra Pradesh is set to introduce 750 electric buses under the Prime Minister’s Electric Bus Sewa scheme, a push to modernise public transport in the State, supported by both the Centre and the State government. Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar on Friday (May 29, 2026) reviewed preparations for the project with officials of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), AP Transco and other departments at his camp office in Guntur.
As part of the allocations, Guntur and Vijayawada have been sanctioned 100 electric buses each, and Mangalagiri will receive 50. The State will get 621 buses of 12-metre length with 35+1 seating capacity, and 129 buses of 9-metre length seating 25+1 passengers, taking the total to 750 buses across 11 cities.

Officials held detailed discussions on charging stations, power supply, depots and the supporting infrastructure needed to run the buses. The initiative aims to provide non-polluting, comfortable and modern transport services and to cut urban pollution at the same time, officials said.
Mr. Pemmasani told officials to speed up all processes and make the buses operational by the end of 2026. Guntur has been allocated ₹27.49 crore for civil and electrical works, and Mangalagiri nearly ₹16.25 crore for infrastructure development.
The cities sanctioned buses are Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Nellore, Kurnool, Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram, Kadapa, Amaravati, Tirupati and Anantapur.
