Four weightlifters from the National camp have tested positive for banned substances, according to sources.

N. Ajith (71kg), a Commonwealth and Asian championships medallist, and Vanshita Verma (86kg) tested positive for human growth hormone and Stanozolol respectively. The substances that turned a positive test for a men’s 110kg lifter and a junior woman lifter (77kg) are not known.

Since three were potentially in contention for Commonwealth Games berths, the development might affect India’s prospects at the Glasgow event, from July 23 to August 2. The Indian Weightlifting Federation officials couldn’t be reached for their comments.

“If there are multiple anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs) committed by weightlifting athletes and/or weightlifting athlete support personnel sanctioned during the June 1, 2025-July 22, 2026 period, the maximum number of athlete qualification slots allocated to a Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) will be reduced by the same number as number of ADRVs,” according to Commonwealth Games qualification system.
