A higher education guidance control room is established at the Namakkal Collectorate to assist students in pursuing higher education, said District Collector Durga Moorthy.
The Collector said in a statement that the initiative was aimed at improving enrolment in higher education in line with the State government’s objective of increasing the gross enrolment ratio among students completing school education.
The control room would provide guidance and counsel students regarding continuing higher studies despite economic, social or personal challenges. Assistance would be extended to orphaned students, differently abled students, those from single-parent families, students living in refugee camps, and those unable to pursue higher education because of financial hardship or lack of awareness. Students unable to continue their studies owing to family circumstances, illness of family members, social constraints, marriage or pressure to take up employment would also be guided.
The Collector said students who had not passed Classes XI and XII would be encouraged to pursue vocational education courses such at polytechnics and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Information related to higher education opportunities, counselling services, and vacancies in arts and science colleges, polytechnic institutions and ITIs would also be provided at the control room.
Students seeking admission to government arts and science colleges and government ITIs in the district should dial the toll-free number 1800 5994286 or WhatsApp number 97888 58794 for assistance, the Collector added.
