No class 12 student of CBSE from Mangaluru has expressed concern over OSM evaluation of papers

Posted on May 15, 2026 By admin

Though many CBSE schools in Mangaluru have recorded 100% result in the class 12 examination, some students have secured less than expected marks in some papers, but no one has cited ‘On Screen Marking’ (OSM) evaluation as a reason for scoring less marks.

Kendriya Vidyalaya 1 and 2 schools in Mangaluru, PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya School at Mudipu, and other private CBSE schools have recorded 100% result in the class 12 examination.

“Physics and mathematics papers were tough and students have secured less marks in them. But all the 40 students of our school have passed,” said Ashok Kumar Prasad, Post-Graduate Teacher (Hindi) of Kendriya Vidyalaya-1, Panambur. Of the 40 students, one secured more than 90% marks, while 80% of students secured more than 75% marks, he said.

Similarly, Jasvinder Lal, Principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya-2, Yekkur in Mangaluru, said all class 12 students have passed in the examination.

P. Rajesh, Principal of PM Shri Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Mudipu, said 70% of class 12 students have secured 75% and more marks, while 30% have scored between 60% and 75%.

Father Johnson L. Sequeira, Principal of Lourdes Central School, said, “Of the 89 students who passed, 46 secured more than 75% marks, while 32 students secured between 60% and 75% marks. Ojas Samaga topped with 97.2%.”

All the 28 students of St. Aloysius Gonzaga School have passed, of which five secured 85% and above, and 23 secured between 65% and 85%. Ishaan Pai topped with 95.6%, followed by Neel Thimmayya Nanda Kandarthanda (87%) and Shinead Rebecca Fernandes (86.8%).

Sharada Vidyanikethana Public School, Talapady, has recorded 100% result. T. Shraval Naik topped with 95.8, followed by Parvathi Suresh (89.6) and R. K. Advika (88.4%).

Sister A.C Melissa, Principal of Mount Carmel Central School, said all 17 class 12 students have passed, of which six secured more than 75% marks. N. Deeksha topped with 94.2%, followed by Avaneesh Chaturvedi with 93.2%, she said.

N. Deeksha from Mount Carmel Central School in Mangaluru secured 94.2% marks in the class 12 examination.

Mr. Prasad said though students have reported that they did not get the marks they had expected, none have cited OSM system of evaluation as the reason. In the OSM system, evaluators evaluated the scanned images of answer sheets displayed on their screen.

Mr. Lal said the OSM system of evaluation was tried on a pilot basis in 2015. This year, it was adopted for evaluation of class 12 answer sheets.

C.K. Manjunath, Director (Academics and Training), Udupi Shree Adamaru Matha Education Council, who is involved in evaluation of class 12 papers, said the major concern in the OSM system was absence of proper scanned images of answer sheets that made it difficult for some evaluators to see answers on the screen.

“In such cases, answer sheets were referred to evaluators in centres that had good answer sheet scanners, and papers were evaluated.” The CBSE is taking steps to address the flaws noticed in the OSM evaluation, he said.

Mr. Rajesh said the question papers for class 12 students were tough when compared to the ones that students from neighbouring Kerala region wrote. The new OSM system of evaluation has expedited evaluation process, and it has not affected students. If students have concerns about their marks, they can go for re-evaluation, he said.

B.G. Vinayak, Principal of Sharada Vidyanekatana Public School, said his students were trained in highlighting the key points in answers, which helped students.
