Preethi completes the sprint double on the final day

Posted on March 13, 2026 By admin

Preeti Pal completed her double, winning the 200m, to reaffirm her status as one of India’s leading para athletes on the track on the final day of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Friday.

Preethi, who clocked 30.26 seconds to take gold in the T35 category, had won the 100m on the opening day. Preethi, who had also won the double at the season-opening grand Prix in Dubai last month, is now targeting the Asian Games.

“Timings are more important than medals here and things could have been better with tougher competition. I have been doing personal bests in training but that didn’t happen today. But I am confident of improving in the coming tournaments,” the double Paris Paralympic medalist said.

It was yet another day of Indian dominance in an event that has largely resembled a National championship given the smattering of foreign participants and very few entries in some of the events. The women’s T11-12 200m became farcical when the only three entries — all Indians — all failed to run. Two of the three failed to start and the lone remaining runner, Shirisha Govu, was disqualified.

In the men’s 800m T20, only the two Russians turned up with Vladilen Voloshin pipping compatriot Kirill Kirikov for the top spot.

Important results (winners only): Men: 200m (T64): Pranav Desai (24.52s); 800m (T20): Vladilen Voloshin (Rus, 1:54.26); 5000m (T54): Ramesh Shanmugam (11:51.03); shot put (F11-12, F20): Praveen Sharma (13.31m); shot put (F33-34): Aslan Gazzaev (Rus, 10.03m); shot put (F37): Ankit (12.37m); shot put (F53-54): Ayush Verma (8.13m); long jump (T11-12): Gowtham Karanam (5.73m).

Women: 200m(T35-37): Preeti Pal (30.26s); discus throw (F55-56): Garima Joshi (19.24m); discus throw (F57): Shilpa (20.68m).
