Aam Aadmi Party Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj addressing a press conference.
Delhi Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) president Saurabh Bharadwaj on Sunday alleged a “political connection” behind purported attempts to suppress the alleged rape of a three-year-old girl at a Janakpuri school.
While addressing a press conference, Mr. Bharadwaj said, “The child told her parents that a school staffer took her to a basement room and raped her.”
The incident took place on April 30. The accused was arrested the next day and granted bail on May 7.
He questioned the silence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood, noting that both had attended an event at the school a month earlier. “According to the girl’s mother, the school has some political connections. We are wondering what that political connection is, and whether it has something to do with the matter being suppressed,” said Mr. Bharadwaj.
The Hindu reached out to the Delhi government who did not respond to the allegations. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has denied allegations of harassment, saying investigators had gathered “strong evidence” and would challenge the accused’s bail plea before the court.
