The Punjab Congress will soon release a ‘chargesheet’ against the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over the “grim state of affairs” in Punjab, alleging rampant corruption and a deteriorating law and order situation that has left people feeling insecure.

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Congress General Secretary in charge of Punjab, Bhupesh Baghel, presided over a meeting of the party unit here in the run-up to the Assembly election, which is due early in 2027.

The meeting, attended by senior leaders from across the State, served as a platform for an intensive brainstorming session. Pointing out that the meeting deliberated on the dire state of affairs in Punjab, Mr. Baghel, speaking to the media, said that, “On one hand, there is widespread corruption making life miserable for the people, and on the other hand, due to the deteriorating law and order situation, nobody feels secure.”

Mr. Bhagel said the party will hold ‘yatras’ (tours/marches) in all 117 Assembly segments across the State in the coming days to reach out to people. “It will be a three-day ‘yatra’ in each constituency, aiming to reach the maximum number of people, engage in conversation, understand their issues and problems, and learn about their expectations,” he said.

Responding to a question about the recent series of bomb blasts in Punjab, he held both the State and central governments equally responsible, asserting that the onus of ensuring public safety rested squarely on their shoulders.
