With the Sulthan Bathery-Tannirbavi bridge project, which will bring Tannirbavi beach closer to the city, under progress, Mangaluru Smart City Ltd. (MSCL), which is implementing the project, will launch the critical operation of jacking up of bowstring girder, weighing about 900 tonnes, this week.
Lifting the 100-m long girder, which is one unit, and placing it at the centre of the bridge is a crucial part of the ₹64-crore project taken up by MSCL under the Smart City Mission.
K. Arun Prabha, general manager (Technical), MSCL, told The Hindu that the girder will be lifted from the coffer bund built on the Phalguni [the Gurupura] to a height of about 11 m and later lowered by about a metre and placed on the pier support.
