India scaled 54.51 GW wind energy capacity in 2025: Union Minister Pralhad Joshi

India added 6.34 gigawatts (GW)-worth wind energy capacity in the calendar year 2025 with the total capacity in the country scaling 54.51 GW at the end of the year, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi informed Wednesday (January 7, 2026).

Poignant to note, the capacity added in 2025 is approximately 85.4% higher than the capacity added in the preceding calendar year. For perspective, India installed 3.42 GW worth capacity in 2024. It had closed the year with 48.16 GW wind capacity.

The latest enumerated total capacity, that is, at the end of the calendar year 2025, is 13.2% higher than the comparable period a year ago.

Reflecting on the expansion, Mr. Joshi wrote on social media, “Under the visionary leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this surge highlights India’s accelerating clean energy transition and steadfast commitment to building a sustainable, self-reliant and future-ready ecosystem.”
