A 19-year-old kayaker recently opened up about being chased by a great white shark while kayaking off the coast of New Zealand. According to the New Zealand Herald, Matt Wells was fishing alone near Cape Reinga when he encountered the massive shark. He captured the whole incident on camera. The video showed the predator swishing its tail through the water as it hunted after the man’s kayak. Speaking to the outlet, the teen recounted the terrifying ordeal and shared his reflections on the “special” encounter. 

“It was terrifying in the moment, but in reflection, I’m kind of thoughtfully gracious that I did get to have that experience,” Mr Wells told the outlet. “It’s not something many people will get in their life. You have to be grateful for that much, especially getting out of it completely unharmed with a good story to tell,” he continued. 

Mr Wells said that he hoped to hook a big fish on his trip and the shark “wasn’t exactly the outcome I was looking for, that’s for sure”. 

In the clip, he apologised to the viewers for his cursing while still attempting to evade the predator. He exclaimed, “Its main food source is marine mammals, and I’m a marine mammal right now!”

Mr Wells believes the shark was 453 kg and about 4.5 metres long. Speaking to Good Morning America, he said he had to paddle 2.5 miles back to shore to escape the apex predator. At one point, he even tried to distract the shark by throwing a bottle at it. But despite the attempt, the 19-year-old said the “very curious shark” kept “playing around with me” until he reached safety.

Mr Wells said the encounter was “a really really cool thing to see, although it may not have seemed like that in the moment.” “My main worry was that the shark is inquisitive and that he might decide that ‘Hey, what’s this? Let’s give it a taste,’ ” he explained, per the outlet. 

Mr Wells told New Zealand Herald that he phoned his family when he got to shore, and said they were also expecting him to get caught in an incident like this eventually. 

The close encounter, however, has not stopped Mr Wells from returning to the water. He went back out the next day, and has been out several times since, he revealed. “I think it’s just broadened my appreciation for the ocean,” he told GMA. “It definitely got the adrenaline up, but it was quite the experience and I’m quite glad that I had it,” he added.

According to The Times of India, the constable, who was originally on leave, was called back to duty after the tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station that resulted in 18 deaths.

Reena’s husband, a CRPF constable, is currently stationed in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the report. With no living in-laws to assist, she has no choice but to bring her child to work while searching for a caregiver.

“It’s just part of my daily routine. I make sure the baby stays safe,” Reena explained. “I’m looking for someone to help, but until I find a caregiver, I’ll keep doing what needs to be done.”

 

In a display of bravery, Malaysian tourist Farah Putri Mulyani rescued a local man from drowning at Sri Lanka’s Diyaluma Waterfall. The incident occurred when the man, who was swimming in the waterfall, inadvertently ventured into the deep end and began struggling to stay afloat. His distressed friends shouted for help, but it was Ms Mulyani, who was nearby, who swiftly took action.

A video of the rescue shows her diving into the water and swimming towards the man, before pulling him to safety with great effort. Once they reached the shore, the man’s friends helped him away from the water, shaken but grateful for Ms Mulyani’s quick thinking and selfless act.

Ms Mulyani later shared the video on social media, recounting the experience and issuing a cautionary warning to others about the potential dangers lurking beneath the surface of waterfalls.

In the video, she said, “This incident completely shifted the focus of my trip. It made me realise that more people need to be aware of the potential dangers at waterfalls. The pools can be incredibly deep, and without a current to help you swim, it becomes even more dangerous, especially if you’re not a strong swimmer. Since this happened, I’ve been in deep reflection”

An Indian scammer got the taste of his own medicine after he encountered a tech-savvy man who hacked his laptop and accessed his personal information. The hacker also threatened to access his bank account to make payments, prompting the scammer to erase all traces of his online identity.

The video was shared on the YouTube channel mrwn with the description, “In this video, I confront a scammer with his banking details, name and picture while getting his reaction on webcam.” 

The hacker explains the scammer in the video goes by the name Kamal. He shows how Kamal’s laptop is filled with private images, data, and bank account information. He revealed that he waited and observed the scammer for four weeks before calling the phone that would direct him to the man. 

The techie starts by pretending to be a naive person. After talking to him for a while, Kamal asks him to make a payment for fake software. However, the hacker enters Kamal’s information instead of his own, leaving the Indian man scared and confused.

In the comment section of the YouTube video, people praised the hacker for his skills. Some Indians shared that they were embarrassed the scammer was from their country.

A person said, “I don’t care what anyone says. In our home, all content creators who mess with scammers are heroes. Thanks for all that you do.” 

Another added, “The world needs an army of these scammer catchers.”

Last week, Police arrested a 30-year-old man from Bihar Khagaria town for cheating a Navi Mumbai resident of over Rs 14.8 crore in a share trading cyber fraud, PTI reported.

The Navi Mumbai police’s Cyber Cell tracked down and nabbed the accused, Sujitkumar Madankumar Singh, who has connections in Cambodia where he worked at call centres and duped Indian citizens in scams, an official said.

In 2022, India registered 17,470 cybercrimes, including 6,491 cases of online bank fraud, according to government data.

Popular YouTuber Mithilesh Backpaker recently shared an experience he encountered in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, wherein a group of men harassed his Russian wife. The vlogger captured the incident on camera and later posted it online. In the video, he revealed that a group of men followed his wife Lisa and their two-year-old son during their visit to the City Palace in Udaipur. He also captured the moment his wife was harassed with comments like “6,000 INR?”. 

The YouTuber was recording a video when one man made a sexually-coloured remark directed at his wife. He immediately turned his camera to the eve-teaser and confronted him. He threatened to call the police even as the harasser kept denying that his remark was directed towards the Russian woman.

“6,000 INR kisko bolta, merko samajhta nahi kya? (Don’t I understand whom you are saying 6,000 to?)” the YouTuber asked. “Kikso bola? Meri wife Russian hai toh tu ulta seedha comment dega? (My wife is Russian so you will say these nonsensical things?)” he added.

In the video, the YouTuber said that the men had been following him and his family around even before the “6,000 INR” comment triggered him. He claimed that the City Palace security, instead of assisting him, urged him to drop the matter and not call the police. He criticised India’s security situation for women and the attitude of people. 

“I was so angry. I was with my wife. How can people behave in this manner? It was very shocking and very shameful for me. My wife came to India… I wanted to promote Indian tourism, that India is so beautiful, so safe. And when something like this happens, what do I do?” he asked.

The YouTuber shared the video earlier this month. Since then, the clip has gone viral and sparked outrage among social media users. “Definitely you should file a police complaint, such things should not be taken lightly, it is deep rooted in young indian minds, and should be punished,” commented one user.

A video from Iran showing a woman confronting a cleric at an airport in Mehrabad is going viral on social media. In the clip, shared on X by user Navid Mohebbi, the woman, seen without a hijab, angrily removes the cleric’s turban and places it on her head like a scarf during the altercation. “So you have honour now?” she says to the clerk, before searching for her husband and asking “What did you do to my husband?” The exact date and cause of the initial confrontation is unclear.

According to Iran International, the woman confronted the cleric for allegedly harassing her about not wearing a hijab. However, Mashregh News, a media outlet affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), reported that the incident was unrelated to hijab. The outlet also claimed that the woman had “psychological problems”. She was detained briefly but later released “with the consent of the complainants”. 

However, social media users disputed Mashregh News’s explanation. One user praised the woman’s “transformation of the turban into a mandatory scarf” as an innovative form of resistance, as per Iran International. “That is a lady who has just had enough. You cannot scare people who reach that point. Courage and its shadow of defiance wins out in the end,” wrote another.

A Bengaluru man has gone viral on social media after he posted a video of driving a cab after his driver fell asleep. Milind Chandwani, a startup founder and an IIM graduate, was returning home late at night from Bengaluru Airport when he booked the cab. Taking to Instagram, Mr Chandwani wrote that the driver appeared to be sleepy and despite multiple breaks, could not get himself up to speed, before handing the steering wheel to the passenger.

“Last night at 3 AM while returning from Bengaluru airport, I found myself in an unexpected role: my cab driver’s driver,” Mr Chandwani captioned the video where the driver could be seen dozing off on the passenger seat.

“He was so sleepy, he even stopped for tea and a cigarette but still couldn’t keep his eyes open. So, I offered to drive, and to my surprise, he handed me the keys faster than I could say “Bengaluru traffic.”

After the driver went to sleep, Mr Chandwani could be seen navigating through Bengaluru’s streets with Google Maps guiding him.

“He immediately reclined his seat, passed out, and left me to navigate the city with Google Maps as my co-pilot. Five minutes before we reached, his boss called, and I overheard him asking for a day shift because he couldn’t handle the night shift anymore,” he added.

The video quickly went viral, amassing attention on social platforms with over 13.2 million views and hundreds of comments. It sparked a range of responses from social media users, with many appreciating the act of kindness while others calling out the driver for putting his and Mr Chandwani’s life in jeopardy.

On Reddit, another user shared a video of his cab driver falling asleep during a trip from Saket, Delhi to Gurugram. The passenger who was forced to drive the vehicle said he was still “shaking” after the incident.

“I’m still shaking a bit. I booked an Uber from Select Citywalk, Saket to Sector 85, Gurgaon, with a midway drop in Najafgarh. The driver was late, but I figured it was because of the heavy rain all day,” the OP said.

“At first, he was responsive, but as soon as we hit the expressway, I noticed he was driving erratically-swerving between lanes, almost hitting the divider. I looked over and realized he was falling asleep at the wheel.”
