A bizarre matrimonial advertisement of a Mumbai-based business family seeking a groom for their daughter has taken social media by storm. Instead of sharing personal information such as height, education, and occupation of the woman, the newspaper advertisement mentioned the family’s “500+ market cap”.

Shared on Reddit, the ad read, “Mumbai-based business family with 500 crore+ market cap looking for a suitable Marwari/Gujarati boy for their daughter’s (28 yrs) marriage.”

Should i apply ?

Typically used to refer to the overall worth of a company’s shares, the phrase “market cap” surprised many and sparked a string of humorous responses online.

A person said, “Lol I never trusted these adverts. Families with 500+ cr net-worth usually have tightly knit elite circles. They don’t need to advertise like this.”

According to some comments, it was a trick to get a groom of similar standing. “The stereotype is real and the Marwari/Gujarati guy they’re looking for their daughter would most likely be loaded without even having to set an income filter,” remarked someone.

Last year, a matrimonial ad of a 26-year-old “investor” from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh went viral for some unique claims. He claimed that he earned Rs 29 lakh per annum, adding his income was “compoundingly increasing” by 54% every year.

The ad highlighted the man’s physical appearance and caste but quickly took an unexpected turn, shifting focus to his financial credentials. The man was said to be active in the Indian stock market and claimed to have a self-discovered and self-taught method of growing his income at an extraordinary rate.

It didn’t stop there. To assure potential matches of the safety and stability of his profession, he also offered to share a PowerPoint presentation detailing his approach to “safe investing,” and how it makes him “financially independent.”

The ad also claimed that a 16-slide presentation would be sent through WhatsApp to anyone interested in learning how his unique method made him financially independent.

A former flight attendant in China decided to quit her job and switch from aviation to agriculture. Yang Yanxi, who was born into a rural family in the Heilongjiang province of Northeastern China, moved back to her hometown to become a pig farmer, reported South China Morning Post.

The decision paid off for the 27-year-old, who earned over Rs 23.8 lakh in just two months.

After pursuing higher education, Yang spent five years working as a flight attendant with a Shanghai airline, earning a modest monthly salary of around Rs 33,000 (2,800 yuan). Living in Shanghai, she had to often ask her parents for financial assistance.

Yang discovered that her parents compromised on their expenses and incurred substantial debt to help her lifestyle. “My parents always told me good news but hid the bad. Now I wanted to be with them and did not want to be so far from home,” Yang said.

After she found her mother’s health struggles and financial sacrifices, Yang decided to quit her job and return home in October 2022.

Months later, she took over a relative’s pig farm and began raising animals, sharing her farming life on social media, amassing nearly 1.2 million followers. She makes pig food, feeds them, and cleans up after them in her videos.

Yang even dresses up in beautiful attire to interact with the sleeping pigs. Despite the difficulties of rural living, she remains determined, saying, “I work so hard at the pig farm that my back and waist ache every day. After a full day, I smell stinky.”

“Now, I can stay with my parents. I am very happy and fulfilled,” she added.

Yang has earned over 200,000 yuan in just two months through pig farming, selling livestock, and managing her social media account. She also plans to open a specialty store, start a hotel in the future, and also expand her farm.

Popular podcaster Prakhar Gupta has accused IndiGo of offering him a bribe of Rs 6,000 to delete his X post criticising the airline for a flight preponement issue. It all started after Mr Gupta claimed in an X post that IndiGo unexpectedly preponed his flight by 15 minutes, closed its check-in counters and ultimately forced him to purchase a new ticket. He also said that the ground staff was very rude to him and claimed that they were playing inappropriate private voice messages on speakerphone while dealing with his complaint.

Additionally, Mr Gupta pointed out inconsistencies in the fees charged for the rescheduled flight. He was told that the actual charge for the ticket change was Rs 40,000 but was being offered a “discounted” price of Rs 3,000 per customer. “A 90% discount? Instantly? Without me asking for it? Super suspicious,” he remarked.

In response to the post, IndiGo airline stated, “We are currently looking into this and will reach out to you soon to resolve the matter.”

However, once his post started gaining traction online, Mr Gupta alleged that IndiGo offered Rs 6,000 to remove his complaints from social media. “Hi Navi, your team tried to bribe me with Rs 6,000 to remove this post. No apology, either written or verbal, issued,” the podcaster wrote on X.

In the following lines, Mr Gupta invited the IndiGo CEO to join him on his podcast to address the issue. “I have a few questions for the CEO, please tell him Ill fly him out first class to my studio, and show him the unwavering Indian Tolerance we are famous for. Let us see what happens when we air that episode,” he wrote.

IndiGo is yet to respond to the bribe allegation.

Previously, Mr Gupta claimed that the airline preponed his flight by 15 minutes, just 2.5 hours before the scheduled time. He said that he didn’t receive any email regarding the change and just a “measly” text message early in the morning. “How do you change a flight time and PREPONE it, 2.5 hours before the flight at 4 AM in the morning, expect me to make it on time, and then when I do get there 5 minutes behind on the NEW TIME , you do not let me check in my bag and make me pay for a new flight?” he wrote in his post.

“I got no email, and one measly text at 4 AM this morning that my flight time has been preponed from 645 to 630, and you close your check in counters according to 630??” Mr Gupta continued.

He further slammed the ground staff’s unprofessional behaviour, saying that he caught them playing “very distasteful private voice messages to each other on speaker phone and giggling at the obscenity while ‘resolving’ our issue.” He also expressed his frustration over a “suspicious” adjustment in fee during the ticket change.

“And the language of resolution is suspect- the lady literally began with ‘Sir the actual charge of this change is 40,000 Rs (original ticket for not more than 15) but I will charge you only minimum price 3,000 per customer’. A 90% discount??? Instantly??? Without me asking for it ??? Super suspicious. Everyone asks you to go to the next counter, trying to exhaust your anger and genuine frustration. You waste my time, you take more of my money, but no one dares take any accountability,” he said.

IndiGo was quick to respond to Mr Gupta’s initial post. But despite this, Mr Gupta expressed disappointment, saying no substantial help had been offered yet.

A ticketless passenger on a German high-speed train ended up clinging to the train’s exterior after it departed the station before he was ready to board, according to police.

The 40-year-old man, who had boarded the ICE train in Munich without a valid ticket, stepped off at the Ingolstadt station for a cigarette break. However, the BBC reported that he took too long and found himself locked out when the train doors closed, leaving him at risk of being left behind.

In a desperate move, he climbed onto a bracket between two carriages and held onto cables as the train sped towards Nuremberg at speeds of up to 282 km/h (175 mph). Federal police eventually stopped the train about 30 km away.

Witnesses quickly alerted authorities, who contacted the train driver, prompting an unscheduled stop at Kinding in Upper Bavaria. The intercity express was on a six-hour journey to the northern city of Lubeck.

The man, a Hungarian national, told police he had left his luggage on the train during his cigarette break and did not want to be separated from it.

Remarkably, a police spokesman confirmed he was unharmed after his risky stunt. “A state police officer who happened to be on board located the 40-year-old Hungarian ‘passenger’ and escorted him back onto the train,” the spokesman said, adding that he was later handed over to federal police at Nuremberg central station.

The man is expected to face charges for “an act disruptive to operations,” categorized as an administrative offence.

Federal police have since issued a public warning, urging people not to endanger their lives on Germany’s trains.

Popular YouTuber Mithilesh Backpaker recently shared an experience he encountered in Rajasthan’s Udaipur, wherein a group of men harassed his Russian wife. The vlogger captured the incident on camera and later posted it online. In the video, he revealed that a group of men followed his wife Lisa and their two-year-old son during their visit to the City Palace in Udaipur. He also captured the moment his wife was harassed with comments like “6,000 INR?”.

The YouTuber was recording a video when one man made a sexually-coloured remark directed at his wife. He immediately turned his camera to the eve-teaser and confronted him. He threatened to call the police even as the harasser kept denying that his remark was directed towards the Russian woman.

“6,000 INR kisko bolta, merko samajhta nahi kya? (Don’t I understand whom you are saying 6,000 to?)” the YouTuber asked. “Kikso bola? Meri wife Russian hai toh tu ulta seedha comment dega? (My wife is Russian so you will say these nonsensical things?)” he added.

In the video, the YouTuber said that the men had been following him and his family around even before the “6,000 INR” comment triggered him. He claimed that the City Palace security, instead of assisting him, urged him to drop the matter and not call the police. He criticised India’s security situation for women and the attitude of people.

“I was so angry. I was with my wife. How can people behave in this manner? It was very shocking and very shameful for me. My wife came to India… I wanted to promote Indian tourism, that India is so beautiful, so safe. And when something like this happens, what do I do?” he asked.

A 31-year-old Chinese actor was recently rescued from a scam centre in Myanmar after he went missing in Thailand during his visit, prompting his girlfriend to seek help on social media. According to the BBC, Wang Xing had been missing for two days before his girlfriend turned to social media for help. “We have no choice but to borrow the power of the internet to amplify our voices,” she wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo on January 5. Her post quickly went viral and Mr Wang gained nationwide attention, promoting government intervention. On January 7, the 31-year-old actor was finally rescued from a scam centre in Myanmar.

A day after, Mr Wang made his first appearance alongside Thailand Police. According to the BBC, the actor revealed that he had been lured into the facility under the pretence of a lucrative job opportunity. He said that he had flown to Bangkok for an acting job offered to him on WeChat. He realised he was kidnapped after he crossed a river into Myanmar and noticed the rudimentary living conditions, he told the cops.

He also told the Thai police that there were around 50 Chinese nationals held in the same place as him alone. Notably, these centres, reportedly run by organised criminal networks, coerce victims into conducting online scams and other fraudulent operations.

The actor’s swift yet mysterious rescue has now led to questions about the fate of those who remain trapped inside the scam centre. “We are desperate to know if the remaining Chinese nationals (who were) with him have been rescued,” one social media user wrote on Weibo. “Other people’s lives are also lives,” remarked another.

Speaking to the police, Mr Wang revealed that he was invited to act in a film in Thailand by someone who posed as the associate director of the production. He stated that he had been on a shoot in Thailand around 2018 and did not suspect this was any different.

He then disappeared on January 3 in Mae Sot, a Thai border town notorious for trafficking activities. His girlfriend wrote on Weibo that she and his brother tried to tack the actor down and get the police involved, however, “there had been little results”.

But as Mr Wang’s girlfriend’s post gained nationwide attention, a case was finally registered in China and the embassy in Thailand also said that they had attached great importance to the case. The next day, Thai and Chinese officials announced that the 31-year-old had been rescued.

Details of the rescue have been sparse. Officials have not disclosed the exact location of the scam centre. However, Mr Wang told the police that after reaching Bangkok, he was picked up in a car and taken to Myanmar, where his head was shaved and he was forced to undergo training on how to scam people on phone calls. He also claimed that at the scam centre, he could not eat much food and did not have time to use the toilet.

Mr Wang’s disappearance has prompted officials to look into other similar cases. Thai police are reportedly investigating the case of another Chinese model who disappeared at the Thai-Myanmar border after he was promised work in Thailand.

The China Federation of Radio and Television Association also said in a statement Tuesday that “many actors” have gone abroad on fake promises of film shoots, and as a result suffered “serious damage to their personal and financial security”. “We are very concerned about this,” the statement said.

Jocelyn Wildenstein, the 84-year-old Swiss socialite known as “Catwoman” due to her extensive plastic surgeries, has denied getting any work done on her face. In an interview with The Sun, Ms Wildenstein claimed that she has “never” had plastic surgery because she is scared of the results. Her statement comes despite her former husband Alec Wildenstein once saying that they both got their respective first plastic surgeries together about a year after they got married.

“I haven’t had plastic surgery. I am scared of what can happen, and I don’t like to have something heavy. Sometimes it is a bit heavy and terrible,” Ms Wildenstein told the outlet.

The 84-year-old claims to have eschewed even Botox after a bad experience with the cosmetic treatment. “I don’t like the Botox. Everyone has a different reaction to it,” she explained, adding, “I have had Botox only twice. I don’t know if I am allergic, but when I had it, it did not go well with me. It was not a good result. My face swelled up. If [other women] want to do it too strong, it doesn’t work well.”

Ms Wildenstein also insisted that she has never used any fillers. “I never did any fillers. I have some friends who had fillers and were not happy,” she said.

Jocelyn Wildenstein became a tabloid fixture in the 1990s during her divorce from her billionaire art dealer husband Alec Wildenstein. Several reports suggest that she began her facial transmogrification because of her late ex-husband, who wanted her to look like a lynx.

According to People magazine, Mr Wildenstein once also claimed that he and Jocelyn both got some of their respective first plastic surgeries together about a year after they got married.

Notably, Ms Wildenstein’s face has earned her the nickname “Catwoman”. However, she has repeatedly said that some of her facial features are partially natural. “The lynx has perfect eyes. If I show you pictures of my grandmother, what you see is these eyes – cat eyes – and high cheekbones,” she once said.

One-star Ginza Kitafuku in Tokyo serves the world’s most expensive Michelin tasting menu at $2,130. While the visitors are served the best-tasting snow crab at the establishment, they must take off their shoes and sit on the floor. Diners must pay $2,130 per person for the restaurant’s most expensive dish, made entirely of a snow crab so beloved by the Japanese royal family that it has its museum, reported the New York Post.

Visitors may watch the chef at Ginza Kitafuku cook a live crab in front of them before it is served. If this sight makes you uncomfortable, you might consider reserving on the sixth floor in a separate room. For $258, the restaurant serves a red king crab feast for customers on a tighter budget. According to a list compiled by food publication Chef’s Pencil, Ginza Kitafuku is the most expensive Michelin-starred restaurant in the world in 2024.

The second most expensive restaurant on the list is Shanghai’s three-star Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet. A meal at the establishment costs an astounding $1,230. The restaurant offers a “theatrical, multi-sensory dining experience featuring meticulously crafted dishes that blend French techniques with global influences,” according to the outlet, which described it as “a captivating fusion of gastronomy and cutting-edge visual technology.”

Third place goes to New York, where Caviar Russe on Madison Avenue has the priciest Michelin-starred tasting meal in the country. Here, the guests can taste an 11-course meal focused on caviar for $950.

Azabu Kadowaki in Tokyo and Masa in New York are two other eateries on the list. With a dinner that cost more than $950, Masa was the first restaurant in the USA to receive a Michelin star.

Other notable locations are Guy Savoy in Paris, Quince in San Francisco, and Alchemist in Copenhagen.

In response to the post, the Bengaluru police requested further details.

A Bengaluru man recently recounted a harrowing experience in which his car was attacked by a group of men in the middle of a busy road in the Kudlu area. Sharing pictures and videos of the incident on X, user Deven Mehta claimed that the attackers shattered his car windows, threw stones and threatened him and a woman inside his vehicle – all while a traffic police officer allegedly looked on without intervening. “My car was attacked by goons on crowded bangalore streets at 7pm while a traffic police watched them break glasses, throw stones & threaten us at Kudlu, despite a woman in the car,” Mr Mehta wrote on X.

In another post, the X user shared why the group of men attacked his vehicle. “Their bike touched my car (old car) from behind (their fault) in head-to-head traffic. I was looking from my mirror when they yelled in Kannada. I told them “Kannada illa, no problem, no damage- aap jao”. I believe they got infuriated at how a Hindi man gave them instructions,” Mr Mehta said.

In response to the post, the Bengaluru police requested further details, urging him to share his contact information via direct message. However, Mr Mehta declined to share any information, citing safety concerns. “Sorry, I don’t want to provide any details as I don’t feel safe. I have shared it here so that more people remain vigilant and careful on the streets till we get better police and safety services,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, in the comment section of Mr Mehta’s post, several users expressed frustration over the growing crime rate in the city.

“@BlrCityPolice congratulations. The city has gone to the dogs. Your inaction and silence on such matters is deafening. I sincerely hope you do something better than asking the sufferer for more details,” wrote one user.

“Wow….Bangalore is turning safer by the day. Goons being given a free hand to attack people, road range on the rise, everyone wants to come first on the road and show off this shitty driving skills, violations everywhere. Great progress seen in India’s Silicon Valley,” sarcastically commented another.

In the obituary, Mr Charles recapped his father’s life from start to finish.

An obituary for a 74-year-old US man who died after falling and hitting his head has gone viral, with his son letting the public know that he is “God’s problem now”. Robert Boehm died on October 6 and his son, Charles Boehm, recalled the life of his father in the most unconventional and hilarious ways. He candidly told the public who his father really was. But he clarified that it was not out of disrespect. Instead, it was a more honest tribute to the man who raised him, and a chance for his small town of Clarendon, Texas, to laugh once more with the beloved fellow resident.

“Robert Adolph Boehm, in accordance with his lifelong dedication to his own personal brand of decorum, muttered his last unintelligible and likely unnecessary curse on October 6, 2024, shortly before tripping backward over ‘some stupid mother****ing thing’ and hitting his head on the floor,” the obituary read, per Robertson Funeral Directors’ Facebook post.

In the obituary, Mr Charles recapped his father’s life from start to finish. He wrote that his father’s 1950 birth “God immediately and thankfully broke the mold and attempted to cover up the evidence”. He also joked that his Catholic father managed to get his mother pregnant three times in five years, allowing him to avoid getting drafted to fight in the Vietnam War.

“Raised Catholic, Robert managed to get his wife Dianne pregnant (three times) fast enough to just barely miss getting drafted into the Vietnam War by fathering Michelle, John, and Charlotte between 1967 and 1972. Much later, with Robert possibly concerned about the brewing conflict in Grenada, Charles was born in 1983,” the obituary read.

“This lack of military service was probably for the best, as when taking up shooting as a hobby in his later years, he managed to blow not one, but two holes in the dash of his own car on two separate occasions, which unfortunately did not even startle, let alone surprise, his dear wife Dianne, who was much accustomed to such happenings in his presence and may have actually been safer in the jungles of Vietnam the entire time,” it continued.

Mr Charles also recalled that his father who worked as a “semi-professional truck driver” had a penchant for collecting antique weaponry, as well as harmonicas. The latter caused “his beloved dogs to howl continuously at odd hours of the night to entertain his many neighbours, and occasionally to give to his many, many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren to play loudly during long road trips with their parents,” the son lamented.

Mr Charles also noted that his mother and Robert’s wife, Dianne, had passed away in February. The loss was jokingly framed as “God finally showed mercy upon” her so that she could get “the heck out of there for some well-earned peace and quiet,” their son wrote.

“Without Dianne to gleefully entertain, Robert shifted his creative focus to the entertainment of you, the fine townspeople of Clarendon, Texas. Over the last eight months, if you have not met Robert or seen his road show yet, you probably would have soon. We have all done our best to enjoy/weather Robert’s antics up to this point, but he is God’s problem now,” the obituary concluded.

This humour-filled obituary has gone viral on social media. Reacting to this, one user wrote, “Best obituary I’ve ever read! Thanks for your *almost* service Sir!” “His legacy is his children that understood him enough to write the best obituary EVER!” expressed another.

“I truly wish more obituaries were written like this, telling the story of someone’s life with making it truly a reflection of them,” commented a third user. “I can only hope that mine is half as good. I felt like I both missed out on knowing him, and yet also knew him personally by how amazing this was written. What an honor! My condolences to the family,” said one user.
