Pacer Xavier Crone pulled off two sensational run outs in his follow through during a Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and Queensland at the Gabba. In the first innings, Xavier Bartlett and Mark Steketee tried to steal a quick single after the former defended Crone’s back of a length delivery. However, Crone was quick to react in his follow through, pulling off a direct hit at the batter’s end, leaving Steketee well short of the crease. Similarly, he cloned the exact dismissal on Day 4 in the second innings, with Jack Clayton on the receiving end of the acrobatic effort this time.

Recapping the match, Sam Elliott and Todd Murphy combined with seven wickets to power Victoria to a 90-run win over Queensland in their pink-ball Sheffield Shield contest on Wednesday.

Elliott bagged four while Murphy picked another three as Queensland were bowled out for 238 while chasing 329 for victory. Ben McDermott (68) was the only batter for Queensland to score 50 or more.

Earlier on Day 3, Campbell Kellaway scored his maiden Sheffield Shield century to put Victoria in the box seat. Queensland slumped to 3-58 at stumps while chasing 329 for victory.

Kellaway made a seven-ball duck in Victoria’s sub-par first-innings total of 186 as Queensland posted 297 to take a 111-run lead. However, Kellaway in a class of his own in Victoria’s second innings.

The 22-year-old with Marcus Harris, who was snubbed by Australia for the 1st Test against India, for a 154-run opening stand to catapult the Vics back into the contest.

Harris hit 64 before Tom Rogers (69), Matt Short (59) and Peter Handscomb (35) also chipped in with crucial knocks, taking Victoria to 439.

Western Australia lost eight wickets for just one run before being bowled out for 53 in their domestic One-Day Cup match against Tasmania on Friday. The defending champions were 52/2 at one stage, but could only add one run to their innings total, which also came from a wide. As many as six batters were dismissed for a duck, with pacer Lance Morris also unbeaten on nought. For Tasmania, Beau Webster grabbed six wickets, conceding just 17 runs in the process.

Western Australia’s collapsed sparked a meltdown on social media, with fans deeming it as one of the “craziest collapse”.

Here’s how internet reacted:

Western Australia’s 53 is the second-lowest total in the history of the tournament, narrowly bettering the 51 posted by South Australia in Hobart in 2003, also against Tasmania.

Tasmania achieved the below-par target in just 8.3 overs, securing a seven-wicket victory and a vital bonus point.

The likes of Cooper Connolly, Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson and Joel Paris all got ducks, while pacer Morris was stranded on nought without facing a ball.

Only two batters got into double figures. Opener D’Arcy Short scored 22 while Cameron Bancroft hit 14.

With the defeat, Western Australia’s bid for a fourth consecutive title is now hanging by a thread.

Tasmania, on the other hand, got their first win of the season.

Meanwhile, Australia captain Pat Cummins returned to action to help New South Wales beat Victoria by 139 runs in Melbourne.

In Brisbane, Queensland made a mockery out of South Australia’s 219-run target, courtesy of Jimmy Peirson‘s ton. They won by nine wickets.

Health officials are warning attendees at a popular festival to improve their hygiene.

Music fans who attended Australian State Victoria’s Esoteric Festival are being warned about a shigellosis outbreak, a contagious bowel infection. The Department of Health confirmed the outbreak after festivalgoers reported symptoms consistent with shigellosis, which include diarrhoea, fever, nausea, and cramps, according to News.com.au.

Shigellosis spreads through contact with infected faeces, either directly or indirectly, through contaminated hands or surfaces. Those most at risk from complications are young children and the elderly, as per the news outlet.

The festival took place from March 8th to 12th in Donald, Victoria. Health officials are urging anyone who attended the Esoteric Festival during that time to get tested immediately if they experience any gastrointestinal symptoms.

Symptoms are similar to gastro, including “an acute onset of diarrhoea, fever, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps.” Severe illness and complications can occur in people who are at-risk, such as young children or the elderly.

“There has been a Shigella gastroenteritis outbreak among people at the Esoteric festival,” the Department of Health said in the warning.

“Additional patrons and staff who are returning to locations within Victoria and interstate may develop symptoms in the coming days.”

The outbreak was confirmed at the festival after 230 people who attended reported symptoms.

“People with shigellosis who work as food handlers, childcare workers, health care workers, or workers in a residential facility should not return to work until advised,” the department said.

The challenge of treating the illness is escalating due to its growing resistance to initial antibiotics. According to Acting Chief Health Officer Ben Cowie, the infection is spreading either through tainted food or sexual contact.
