Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a massive victory over Chennai Super Kings to become the fourth team to book their spot in the IPL 2024 playoffs. RCB went into the match with a win needed to guarantee their Top 4 spot and the Faf Du Plessis-led side was able to clinch the game by 27 runs. Celebrations erupted in the stadium right after the victory with the players also taking part in them to the extent that MS Dhoni left without shaking hands after waiting for some time. Former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu trolled RCB’s celebrations and joked that CSK should give them one of their trophies.

“RCB have already won the IPL. The way they celebrated last night. There are on their way and the whole streets of Bengaluru is filled with RCB fans,” Rayudu said on Star Sports.

Rayudu’s former teammate Varun Aaron came up with a hilarious taunt.

“Just pure CSK. Just not able to digest the fact that they have lost,” Aaron interjected.

However, Rayudu continued to speak about RCB’s celebrations after the match.

“CSK should give one of their trophies to RCB and they can parade it around Bengaluru,” he countered.

“He’s just not able to digest the fact that RCB knocked out CSK,” Aaron replied.

Meanwhile, RCB captain Faf Du Plessis dedicated his Man of the Match award to pacer Yash Dayal.

“I dedicate this Man of the Match to Yash Dayal. The way he bowled was unbelievable. For a man who’s fairly new, he deserves it. [on what he told Dayal before the last over] Pace off is the best option on this pitch and trust your skills and enjoy, this is what you trained for. The yorker did not work the 1st ball and he went back to pace off and it worked unbelievably well,” Faf said after the match.

Varun Aaron, former India pacer, doesn’t think Rohit will face similar difficulties, that he is facing in Mumbai, when he plays for the Indian team.

“I don’t think it’s a big worry. Rohit can flip the switch at national duty, he holds it in very high regard. A player of his class, you can easily use the phrase form is temporary, class is permanent. He will find form, he doesn’t have to worry. It’s been a big worry for MI, and that’s why they haven’t qualified, because he’s a big piece of their puzzle. It shouldn’t be a problem for the Indian team,” Aaron told ESPNCricinfo.

With only one league campaign left in the season, pressure is also being put on the Mumbai Indians management to rest marquee players like Rohit and Jasprit Bumrah.

It has been a horrible IPL 2024 campaign for Hardik Pandya with the all-rounder facing heavy criticism both as player and skipper. Hardik has scored just 197 runs and taken 4 wickets at an economy rate of over 11. MI are languishing in the ninth position with just three wins in the competition and Hardik’s captaincy has attracted a lot of flak from both fans and experts. With the T20 World Cup 2024 squad announcement coming up, Hardik’s selection has come under the scanner and former India pacer Varun Aaron decided to pick in-form Shivam Dube ahead of Hardik for the competition.

While making his case, Aaron said that Hardik was doing well in Gujarat Titans and added that the all-rounder must be rethinking his decision to move back to MI ahead of the new season.

“Hardik for sure. Hardik is a proven match-winner. I know he is not at his best at the moment. There is so much noise around the Mumbai Indians camp. He is taking on a lot of pressure. No matter what happens, he must be thinking, man.. I was winning trophies in GT (Gujarat Titans). I was the captain. We came runners-up. Why the hell did I come here! (laughs). Because it’s a lot of pressure. And I would say it’s needless pressure because you were doing well, you were setting up your legacy at the Gujarat Titans,” Aaron told Star Sports.

Is another Gautam Gambhir vs Virat Kohli clash on the cards? As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Friday, a blockbuster duel will unfold at the M Chinnaswamy stadium. The last time Gambhir and Kohli were in the same stadium, the IPL witnessed one of its most intense on-field battles. Former KKR and RCB star Varun Aaron expects Gambhir’s presence in the Knight Riders dugout to fire up Kohli as the match takes place.

In a chat with Star Sports ahead of the Knight Riders vs Royal Challengers match Aaron said that he is eagerly looking forward to the match-up outside the boundary rope, hinting at the Kohli vs Gambhir duel.

“I don’t want to stir anything but I’m looking forward to the match-up outside the boundary line. Gautam Gambhir is going to be there right beside the Bengaluru dug-out, I don’t know what’s going to happen there. We know Virat likes to have fire in his belly and if he just looks at the Kolkata dug-out, he’s going to get fired up,” said Aaron.

Gambhir and Kohli famously clashed during an RCB vs Lucknow Super Giants match in IPL 2023. Kohli initially locked horns with LSG’s Naveen-ul-Haq before Gambhir went into the ground and had a verbal war with the former.

On the chaotic episode, Gambhir had said last year: “It is not about Naveen-ul-Haq. I would have defended any player, that is my job, that is how I am. Why should I not defend my players just because someone has a broadcaster working for him, left right and centre, someone who has more social media presence doesn’t have any right to walk over someone.”

While all is well between Kohli and Naveen since the episode, the equation between Gambhir and the RCB star will become more clear on Friday night.
