Officers from the LAPD and the FBI are investigating the robbery.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) are investigating one of the largest cash heists in the city’s history after as much as $30 million was stolen from a money storage facility. According to CBS News, the break-in took place on Easter Sunday at the Gardaworld facility in Sylmar where cash from businesses across the region is handled and stored. The robbery somehow went undetected until the next morning, with no sign on the outside of the safe that anything was amiss.

As per CBS, the thieves gained access to the building and entered the vault without setting off the alarms. Officials said that very few people would have known about the cash being stored at the facility, therefore, they are investigating whether the group had inside knowledge of the facility.

“The LAPD and the FBI have a joint investigation into an alleged burglary that occurred on Sunday evening, March 31, 2024. No additional information related to the incident is being released,” the agencies said in a joint statement.

Separately, according to The Independent, an employee who works at the facility said that there were multiple questions surrounding the mysterious break-in. “It’s just mind blowing that you would never suspect it. $30 million in the Valley, gone. How? Why? I’m still trying to process it,” the employee said.

“Was it an inside job? Was it just one person? Was it a group? You know, there’s a lot of questions,” he added.

Officers from the LAPD and the FBI are investigating the robbery. No arrests have been made yet and a manhunt is underway for those responsible.

Meanwhile, previously the largest cash heist in Los Angeles happened on September 12, 1997, when $18.9 million was stolen from the former site of the Dunbar Armored facility on Mateo Street. Those suspects were eventually caught.

In 2022, around $100 million worth of jewels was also stolen from a truck at a stop off The Grapevine highway. This case remains unsolved.

A 43-year-old man in the United States has been arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at a 6-year-old boy over Halloween candy. According to NBC News, the incident occurred on Saturday in New York. Michael Yifan Wen was arrested and charged with menacing and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child, Nassau County police said in a statement.

The incident began when a mother drove her daughter, two sons, and a nephew to a nearby residence to drop off a goody bag. Her 10-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son rang the doorbell and dropped off a Halloween goody bag on the porch for the girl’s friend. However, when the children returned to the car, the girl told her mother the address may have been incorrect, so they drove back, and the boy went to the porch to get the bag full of candy.

This is when the man opened the door and pointed a handgun at the boy’s head, the outlet reported. The Nassau County Police Department were immediately notified of the incident and the 43-year-old suspect was arrested.

Mr Wen’s attorney, however, said that his client is presumed innocent. “These are just allegations,” the lawyer said. He also asked the public to refrain from jumping to conclusions “before the facts come out”.

According to ABC News, the investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.

The country has recorded over 500 mass shootings this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive (GVA), a non-governmental organization that defines a mass shooting as four or more people wounded or killed.

Notably, the recent shooting in Maine left 18 dead. This attack was the deadliest mass shooting in 2023 so far, according to the GVA’s data.

Ms Runions is in custody on a $1.5 million bond. (Representative pic)

A 25-year-old woman in the United States is under arrest for fatally shooting a 4-year-old girl on Sunday while demonstrating gun safety. According to a press release by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), the woman, identified as Breanna Runions, was charged with murder and aggravated child abuse in relation to the death of Evangeline Gunter.

During an investigation, authorities determined that Ms Runions caused the injuries that led to the girl’s death. As per the New York Post, at the time of arrest, she told the officials that she was trying to demonstrate gun safety when she pulled the trigger.

However, Ms Runions statement was contradicted by her girlfriend and a 7-year-old who were present at the scene. According to their statement, Ms Runions punished the two children for not waking up the adults and eating food that belonged to her girlfriend. They reportedly told the cops that she then hit both the children with a sandal and made them stand in different corners of the bedroom, where the adults slept.

Following this, Ms Runions then summoned the 4-year-old to show her “firearm safety”. At this point, she pressed the barrel of the gun into the front of the child’s torso and pulled the trigger, the outlet reported.

Shortly afterwards, the 25-year-old and her girlfriend rushed the little girl to the hospital, but she was pronounced dead at Roane Medical Center, officials said.

Ms Runions’ girlfriend was present in the room but did not see the shooting because she was looking away, as per authorities. They also stated that the suspect “may have initially led the investigation to believe that she was demonstrating to the scared 4-year-old ‘firearms safety'”.

On the other hand, the girl’s mother, Josie Gunter, reportedly said that the little girl lived at the house because of a court order and was only supposed to be there for two more months. “I feel like it’s my fault that I let her be there. I should have been more attentive,” she said. “I wish I could have been a better mother for her, to pay attention,” the mother added.

The case is currently under investigation. For now, Ms Runions is in custody on a $1.5 million bond.
