The contributions to the country and society by advocates before and even after Independence was remarkable and now, they can play a decisive role in the public administration through their legal acquaintance, said Upalokayukta K.N. Phaneendra.

He was addressing a conference on the ‘Role of Judicial Officers and Advocates in Public Administrations’, held at the district court here on Saturday. The advocates always remained prominent in the society and led public administration. After independence, many advocates such as Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel contributed in shaping the society.

“The present advocates also help the public whenever they face issues getting benefits owing to misadministration by government servants,” he said.

“Every citizen of the country is entitled to get the government’s benefits till death. The government extends benefits. But, it is important to note that how much of them reach the last person of the society. Therefore, judicial officers and advocates have to ensure that the benefits reach every person,” Mr. Phaneendra said.

The advocates are lenient in law, which is enacted for the public welfare. If executives fail to take them to the doorsteps, the advocates should interfere and take such benefits to the needy through the judiciary. Without the help of advocates, the judiciary cannot work alone in terms of executing public administration.

The Upalokayukta distributed equipment to the visually impaired, physical disabled persons under the Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens.

District and Sessions judge H.J. Maruladisiddaradhya expressed happiness for distributing equipment to the differently abled. Senior civil judge Balasaheb Wadavade; civil judge and member-secretary of District Legal Services Authority Mariyappa; president of the District Bar Association R.S.Patil, and other were present.
