Jhansi:

 Three men were killed when their car rammed into a truck parked on the roadside in this Uttar Pradesh district on Tuesday, police said.

The accident took place in the Babina area on the Jhansi-Lalitpur national highway in the evening, they said, adding that the driver of the car lost control over the vehicle while trying to save a puppy.

Circle Officer, Sadar, Alok Kumar said Karan Vishwakarma, a resident of Siya village in the Chirgaon area of Jhansi district, got engaged to a woman in Lalitpur on Tuesday. After the engagement, he was returning to Chirgaon in a car along with two companions, when a puppy suddenly came in front of the vehicle near the Babina toll plaza at around 6:30 pm.

In an attempt to save the animal, the driver lost control over the car, which rammed into a truck parked on the roadside, the officer said.

Vishwakarma and his companions — Pradyumna Sen and Pramod Yadav — were killed on the spot, he said, adding that the car got completely smashed in the incident.

All the victims are aged between 20 and 25 years, police said.

The bodies were taken out from the mangled remains of the car with the help of a JCB machine and sent for post-mortem, they said.

Lucknow:

Ten labourers died in a collision between a tractor-trailer and a truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur late last night. Three others were critically injured in the accident that occurred near Kachhwa border.

The tractor-trailer was carrying 13 labourers towards Varanasi when a truck lost control and hit it from behind, police said.

“Around 1 am, we got the information that an accident has happened on Kachhwa border, GT Road. A tractor with 13 people was heading towards Varanasi when it was hit by a truck. 10 of the 13 people died on the spot,” said Abhinandan Kumar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Mirzapur.

The injured are being treated at the Banaras Hindu University Trauma Centre.

The 13 daily-wage labourers were returning home after work in Bhadohi district. They were headed to their village Mirzamurad in Varanasi, said Mr Singh.

The dead bodies have been sent to the mortuary and an FIR is being registered, he added.

Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, expressed grief over the unfortunate incident in the Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh. Ms Patel wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.

Bulandshahr:

Two sisters were run over by a car on Friday while they were returning from court, police said.

Both have been admitted to a hospital and stated to be out of danger, they added.

Simran, who is in a dispute with her husband, said she was on her way back with her sister after a court date. She has accused her brother-in-law of threatening her with an accident if she stepped out.

She also alleged that her husband was asking her to withdraw the case.

Simran said she went to her in-laws house several times but was allegedly beaten up and forcibly removed from the house.

SP (crime) Rakesh Kumar Mishra said that an accident with two sisters in the Kotwali Nagar area came to light on Friday, and the police have identified the vehicle.

Siddharthnagar, UP:

A woman and her three-year-old daughter were killed when a speeding bus hit their motorcycle near Khira Mandi in Dumariyaganj in Siddharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, police said on Friday.

Prateek Giri from Tarhar village under the Trilokpur Police Station was riding his motorcycle with his sister Kiran Giri, 31, and his three-year-old niece, Siddhi, when the accident took place, said DSP Shohratgarh Sarvesh Singh.

“While they were en route to their village, a speeding unidentified bus struck their bike near Khira Mandi in Dumariyaganj. The bus driver fled the scene, leaving the woman and child dead. The bike rider, Prateek, survived the accident,” he added.

The police arrived at the scene, conducted a preliminary investigation and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination, Singh said.

A police team has been deployed to locate and apprehend the driver of the vehicle, he added.

District Magistrate Raja Ganpati R said the officials have been instructed to ensure that all necessary support is provided to the victim’s family.

Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh):

At least 11 people died and 10 were injured after a truck turned turtle on top of a bus carrying devotees to Uttarakhand on Saturday late at night, said police.

According to the police the incident happened under Khutar police station in Shahjahanpur district when a truck loaded with ballast stones hit the parked bus at a roadside dhaba and overturned on it, crushing the devotees to death.

All the devotees traveling in the bus were residents of Jetha village located in the Kamlapur police station area of Sitapur district.

Ashok Kumar Meena, SP, Shahjahanpur said, “Around 11 pm, we got the information that in the Khutar PS area, a bus was parked, devotees who were going to Purnagiri were sitting inside the bus and some devotees were having food at a Dhaba. A truck lost control and turned turtle on top of the bus… A total of 11 people died and 10 were injured. All injured have been admitted to hospitals…”.

Ghazipur, UP:

One person was killed and at least six were injured after a speeding car ploughed into locals in a market area at Ghazipur on Wednesday evening, police said.

The deceased was identified as Sita Devi (22), a local, the police informed.

Further, according to the police, the driver of the killer vehicle was taken into custody and further action, as per due process, was being taken.

The driver also sustained injuries for which he was receiving treatment, the police informed further.

The injured, meanwhile, were admitted to Lal Bahadur Shashtri Hospital and were under treatment at the time of filing this report.

Footage of the incident, captured by a CCTV camera, showed the vehicle crashing into shops lining the road.

The video also showed the vehicle picking up speed after ramming the shops and driving off.

Pratapgarh, UP:

Three persons, including a six-year-old girl, were killed and two women injured on Tuesday when a car hit a roadways bus on the Prayagraj-Lucknow highway here, police said.

The incident took place near Bishia village in the Hathigawan area at about 8.30 pm when some people were going to Mangarh ashram from Prayagraj in a car, Kunda Circle Officer (CO) Ajit Singh said.

The car rammed into a roadways bus, injuring five persons, including two women, Mr Singh said.

The victims were rushed to a hopital where three of them — Anuj Goswami (32), Vaishnavi Goswami (25) and Gungun Goswami (6) were declared brought dead, the CO said.

The condition of two women — Anita (40) and Twinkle (25) — was stated to critical and they were rushed to Prayagraj for better treatment, he said.

A probe is on in the matter. Bodies of victims have been sent for the postmortem, the officer added.

Amethi:

Two labourers were killed and 16 others injured when a four-wheeler hit a truck from behind near Utelwa here on the Lucknow-Varanasi highway early on Wednesday morning, police said.

The vehicle carrying 18 labourers, who worked in a bread factory in Varanasi, was on its way to Lucknow when the incident occurred around 4 am, SHO of the Kamrauli Police Station Abhinesh Kumar said.

It is suspected that the driver of the vehicle was sleepy when it hit the truck from behind, the police officer said.

While Manoj Kumar and Ram Kishore, both aged 30 and residents of Sitapur died on the spot, the injured, including eight whose condition is stated to be critical, are undergoing treatment at a hospital, the SHO said.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, the officer added.
