An argument between a wife and her husband took a gory turn in a village here on Friday, with the husband allegedly biting his wife’s lips, following which she started to bleed profusely, and had to undergo 16 stitches at the district hospital, police said.

The wife could not tell police her ordeal verbally, so she wrote about the entire incident on paper. She has filed a complaint of harassment against her husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law.

SHO of Magorra Mohit Tomar said the woman, a resident of Nagla Bhuchan, alleged that on Friday evening, when she was working at home, her husband Vishnu came home and started quarrelling without any reason. When she asked him to calm down, he allegedly started beating her.

She further alleged that her husband suddenly bit her lips and she started bleeding profusely. When her sister present at home came to intervene, he allegedly beat her too.

The woman also told police that when she complained about her husband’s act to her mother-in-law and brother-in-law, they allegedly abused and beat her.

On learning about the incident, her father took her to police station and filed a complaint against her husband Vishnu, mother-in-law and brother-in-law, police said, adding that she got 16 stitches on her lips.

The SHO said the couple had a fight over some domestic issues.

All the three accused are missing from the house since the incident, the SHO said, adding that raids are being conducted to arrest them.

A 30-year-old blind woman died of burn injuries after she was allegedly pushed by her husband into a fire for dowry last month, police said on Sunday.

The incident occurred in Sarai Mishrani village in Gopiganj area, where Sushma, sustained severe burns last month and died on Saturday, police sources said.

Based on a complaint by her father, Ram Murat Gautam, an FIR was lodged against her husband, Raju Gautam, under sections 304B (dowry death), 498A (cruelty to a woman by her husband or his relatives) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Efforts are underway to catch the accused, who is on the run, Circle Officer Chaman Singh Chawda said.

He said Sushma, from Kaudhar village in Suriyawan, was married to Raju Gautam (35) under the Chief Minister’s Mass Marriage Scheme on January 30, 2024.

Her family alleged that Raju, who had been married three times before and has two daughters from his previous marriages, was demanding cash and a motorcycle as dowry.

According to the FIR on December 13, 2024, Raju allegedly had his daughters light a bonfire and then pushed Sushma into it after an argument.

Despite her critical injuries, Raju did not seek medical help and later abandoned her at her sister’s home in Janaki Nagar, Prayagraj, on December 15, 2024.

Sushma’s family took her to multiple hospitals for treatment, but her condition did not improve. On Saturday, they brought her to the Gopiganj Community Health Centre, where she died during treatment.

Chawda said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and an investigation is underway.

Two children drowned in a pond while attempting to catch a duck in a village here on Wednesday, police said.

The victims were identified as Taimur (5) and his cousin, Arsh (5), police said.

According to police, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Devkalia village. A duck wandered to the bank. Upon seeing it, the children attempted to catch it and slipped into the pond with no one around to help them.

Later, some villagers, returning from the fields, saw the children in the pond and alerted the police. The police, with the help of locals, retrieved their bodies and rushed them to Biswa Community Health Center. Doctors declared them dead on arrival.

The bodies were sent for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway, police added.

A 17-year-old girl consumed toilet cleaning acid after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by two men who also made a video of the incident and threatened to release it online, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred on November 23 when the girl was on her way to meet her mother, police said.

One of the accused stopped her midway and sexually assaulted her while his accomplice made of the incident, police said. They threatened to release it online if she informed anyone about the matter.

Fearing the consequences of the video being released, she consumed toilet cleaning acid on Friday, police said.

Based on the complaint filed by the girl’s family, the police have registered an FIR and an investigation is underway. The accused have been detained and are being interrogated, Circle Officer (CO) Deepak Chaturvedi.

“The victim is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bareilly and is reported to be out of danger,” the CO said.

A man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his 20-year-old son to death in an inebriated condition here, a police official said Monday.

Chatar Singh stabbed his son Akshay during a fight at their home in Kanshi Ram Colony on Sunday, Circle Officer Sangram Singh said.

The youth was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead, he said.

On the complaint of Akshay’s wife Chandra Devi, a case has been registered against the accused, the police said, adding that the body has been sent for a post-mortem.

Gorakhpur:

A Class 10 student was brutally murdered in her sleep at home by masked intruders in Kushinagar, police said on Saturday. Three people were arrested in connection with this.

They said it happened on Friday night when Priya Singh and her father Jaynarayan Singh were sleeping in their Nauka Tola area home, while other members of the family were away for Chhath Puja celebrations.

According to police, masked intruders allegedly entered the house, slit Priya Singh’s throat and also attacked her father with a sharp weapon.

Jaynarayan Singh suffered injuries to his hands in the attack, they said, adding that the assailants fled when the man raised an alarm.

Police arrived shortly and sent Priya Singh’s body for post-mortem examination.

Based on a written complaint, a case was registered against three people — Keshwar Singh, 48; Madan Singh, 40; and Kishor Kushwaha, 40 — on Saturday and all of them were arrested, Additional Superintendent of Police Ritesh Kumar Singh said.

Police have intensified their investigation to ascertain the motive behind the attack, officials said.

Shahjahanpur:

A second-year MBBS student of a private medical college was found dead on the campus under suspicious circumstances in Shahjahanpur district, police said on Sunday.

The student has been identified as Kushagra Pratap Singh (24) of Varun Arjun Medical College.

“He was a second-year MBBS student at the college. He is a resident of Gorakhpur. Today his body was found lying behind the hostel, after which the police were informed,” the college principal, Colonel (retired) Dr Ravindra Nath Shukla, told PTI.

The student lived on the ground floor of the hostel which is a three-storey building. Prima facie it appears that either he fell on his own or someone pushed him, Superintendent of Police Rajesh S said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, the police said and added that the matter is being investigated.
