The Delhi Police has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory regarding the arrangements and restrictions that will be in place on the eve of New Year across the national capital. With the celebrations set to peak around popular spots such as Connaught Place, India Gate, and Hauz Khas, the Delhi Police will be taking proactive measures to ensure smooth traffic flow and public safety. As per PTI, the Delhi Traffic Police will deploy around 2,500 personnel to ensure the smooth movement of vehicles and form 250 teams to keep a check on drunken driving on New Year’s Eve.

Additionally, as many as 11 CAPF companies and 40 motorcycle patrol teams alongside an equal number of foot patrol teams have been pressed into service. Post 8 pm on New Year’s Eve till the conclusion of the celebrations, well after midnight, the traffic control measures will remain in place in and around Connaught Place.

Traffic restrictions

  • No vehicles will be allowed to proceed into this area beyond certain points such as Mandi House, Bengali Market, and various other key intersections.
  • Only those with valid passes can enter the inner, middle, or outer circles of Connaught Place.

Parking

  • Parking will be limited in central areas, with specific locations designated for parking near Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, and Mandi House on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Unauthorised parked vehicles will be towed and subjected to penalties.

Metro advisory

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) issued a circular stating that exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station will be prohibited after 9 pm to ensure there is no overcrowding.

“As advised by the police authorities, to ease overcrowding on New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2023), exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station will not be allowed from 9 pm onwards. However, entry of passengers will be allowed till the departure of the last train from Rajiv Chowk metro station,” read the DMRC statement.

“Commuters are requested to plan their journey accordingly,” it added.

Service will remain available as per the regular timetable on the rest of the metro network.

Diversions and public transport

  • For those heading to New Delhi Railway Station, alternative routes have been suggested, such as using Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street, Mandir Marg, and Rani Jhansi Road.
  • Public transport users are encouraged to utilise the metro.
  • Anticipating congestion, authorities have advised commuters to avoid Bhairon Road/Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan.

Meri Mati Mera Desh-Amrit Kalash Yatra is a two-day event (Representational)

New Delhi:

Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory for the Meri Mati Mera Desh-Amrit Kalash Yatra organised at Vijay Chowk to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary. It is a two-day event starting today, October 30. 

According to the advisory, there will be traffic regulations and diversions in place for the roads leading to Vijay Chowk on Monday and Tuesday.

These restrictions will remain in place from 9 am to 9 pm, and “whenever necessary”, the police said.

Routes for travel in case of urgent need:

R/A (Roundabout) Shanti Path/Kautilya Marg, R/A RGM, R/A Patel Chowk, Bhinder Point Junction, R/A GPO, Aurbindo Chowk, R/A RML, Q point, R/A GRG, R/A MLNP, R/A Mandi House, R/A Firoz Shah, Ashoka Road, R/A Raja Ji Marg, R/A Firoz Shah Road/KG Marg, R/A MAR Janpath, Mahadev Road, R/A Rajender Prasad Road/Janpath, R/A Patel Chowk, A point, and W point.

Metro services:

Metro commuters should be prepared for potential overcrowding on the Yellow and Violet lines. High passenger volumes are anticipated at Sultanpur, Ghitorni, Qutab Minar, Central Sec, Guru Dronacharya, IFFCO Chowk, Arjan Garh, Udyog Bhawan, and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium stations during boarding and deboarding. People are advised to make travel arrangements accordingly.

Instructions for the general public:

Use public transport to ease road congestion instead of your own vehicles.

Avoid parking on the roadside as it disrupts traffic flow.

If heading to Vayu Bhawan, Sena Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Parliament House, South Block, North Block, Central Secretariat, Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate, etc., plan your departure with extra time in case of potential delays.

Park your vehicles only in designated parking areas.

Adhere to traffic rules and regulations.

Cooperate and support on-duty police personnel.

Immediately report any suspicious or unusual objects or individuals to the police.

The police suggested alternative routes to commuters to avoid inconvenience.

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued traffic advisory for Sunday, September 17, in view of the inauguration of YashoBhoomi or the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICEC) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

YashoBhoomi is located in Dwarka’s Sector 25 and is among the world’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities.

The Delhi Traffic Police, in a tweet, said that special traffic arrangements will be made for the inauguration of the new facility. The police suggested alternative routes to commuters to avoid inconvenience.

“In view of the inauguration of The India International Convention & Expo Centre (IICEC) by the Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi on 17.09.2023, special traffic arrangements will be effective,” the advisory read.

According to the advisory, the route from NH-48 to Nirmal Dham Nala (UER-II) will be affected during the whole day on Sunday. Commuters are advised to avoid the route and take other roads.

Commuters going towards NH-48 from Najafgarh can take the Bijwasan Najafgarh Road. Those headed towards NH-48 through UER-II from Najafgarh/Dwarka are advised to take a left turn from Dhulsiras Chowk towards Dwarka Sector 23 and can use Road number 224.

To reach Dwarka from Gurugram, commuters can take Dhulsiras Road towards Bamnoli Village and can use Najafgarh Bijwasan road. The residents of Dwarka Sub-city and West Delhi can take Palam Flyover to reach their destinations.

“In order to minimise problems, general public are advised to plan their journey in advance,” the traffic police said.

YashoBhoomi is a world class convention centre having a total area of 8.9 lakh square metre. The facility has 15 convention rooms, which include the main auditorium that can accommodate 6,000 people. It also has a grand ballroom with seating capacity of 2,500 guests while an extended open area can host another 500 people.
