The tiger family remained on the road for approximately 15 minutes before leaving.

Tourists in Madhya Pradesh’s Satpura Tiger Reserve were left awestruck after a tiger family was spotted together during a jungle safari in the Madhai area of the reserve.

The rare sighting occurred around 5:00 am on Monday when the big cats were seen sitting in the middle of the road enjoying the sunlight.

Video footage of the incident showed the tiger family – a tigress and her four cubs – sitting in the middle of a road surrounded by tourist jeeps carefully enjoying the sight from a safe distance. “What could possibly be a better sighting than this,” an excited tourist was heard saying in Hindi.

The tiger family remained on the road for approximately 15 minutes before leaving.

This incident marks the first time in the history of the Satpura Tiger Reserve that five tigers have been spotted together. The sighting has been documented as a significant moment in the park’s history by reserve officials.

Jaipur:

A tiger that escaped from the Sariska Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan’s Alwar has attacked at least five people, including a railway employee, in Khairthal-Tijara district of the state.

According to officials, railway employee Vikas Kumar, a resident of Basni village, reached Ajarka (Khairthal-Tijara) railway station at around 5 a.m. on Thursday. He called his brother to pick him up from the railway station. While Kumar was waiting for his brother, the tiger (ST 2303) suddenly attacked him.

However, seeing a bike coming towards them, the tiger fled from there. Kumar was grievously injured in the attack and one of his hands was bitten off by the tiger.

After attacking Kumar, the tiger went towards the nearby Darbarpur village. Around 11 a.m., the tiger also attacked three persons, identified as Satish (45), Binu (30) and Mahendra (33).

All three have been referred to the Alwar District Hospital. Earlier in the early morning, the tiger had attacked another youth in the district.

Darbarpur Sarpanch Veer Singh said that the people of the village are scared because of the tiger. The government school has been closed.

In the past as well, tiger ST 2303 had fled the Sariska forest. Nearly seven months ago, the tiger was spotted in Haryana’s Rewari. The tiger had then attacked some forest workers at a village near the Rajasthan-Haryana border.

The tiger had also attacked a 75-year-old farmer near Bhiwadi in Khairthal-Tijara district, nearly 100 km away from the park, in January this year.

Villagers are advising people in the surrounding areas not to leave their homes.

Injured persons have been shifted to a hospital, say officials. (Representational)

Lahore:

A Bengal tiger on Sunday injured two persons after it broke open its cage while being transferred to a city in Pakistan’s Punjab province, officials said.

Punjab Wildlife Department Director General Mudassar Riaz Malik told PTI that a resident of Multan, identified as Waqas Ahamd, had bought the Bengal tiger from Faizi in Lahore.

“On Sunday, when Waqas was shifting the big cat to Multan from Lahore it broke open its cage near Multan, some 350kms from Lahore, and entered the fields there,” he said, adding that the owner of the tiger informed the wildlife department about the incident.

“The department dispatched a team from Multan. After a hectic operation lasting several hours, the wildlife officials rescued it. Before the big cat was rescued it had injured two persons,” the DG said.

He added that the injured persons have been shifted to a hospital in Multan where their condition is stated to be out of danger.

The official said the Bengal tiger’s owner would be fined for transporting the big cat without informing the wildlife department.

He said the tiger was shifted to the Multan Zoo.
