Kumaraguru Institutions on Saturday (June 6) launched what it described as the country’s first student-built, human-powered submarine and a next-generation electric racing boat. Captain Pradeep Premkumar, Executive Officer, INS Agrani, and Craig Mario D’Mello, founder-director, 6th Element Engineering (6EE-Bengaluru), attended the event.

Captain Pradeep Premkumar expressed pride at seeing engineering teams from Coimbatore compete on the global stage.

Acknowledging the rapid technological advancements shaping the current generation, from multitasking to Artificial Intelligence and quantum computing, Captain Pradeep Premkumar urged students to continue striving for self-reliance.

D. Saravanan, director, Academic Quality Assurance, Kumaraguru Institutions, said Team Sea Sakthi was the sole representative from India at the Monaco energy event for five consecutive editions. Introducing the debutant Team InCraft, he praised the students for designing, fabricating and testing a submarine without ever having seen a real model

Indigenously designed and manufactured by student innovators from Kumaraguru College of Technology and Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science, the vehicles developed by Team InCraft and Team Sea Sakthi are set to represent India at two of the world’s premier maritime engineering championships, the college said.

Team InCraft, India’s first student engineering team to design and build a human-powered submarine, is set to represent the country at the European International Submarine Races (eISR) in the United Kingdom. The team will participate in the prestigious competition scheduled to be held from June 29 to July 10, marking a significant milestone for student-led engineering innovation in India.

Team Sea Sakthi has launched its fifth-generation electric racing boat, Yali 5.0, and is set to represent India at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) to be held from July 8 to July 11. The team has consistently secured sixth place globally in previous editions and won several innovation awards. Competing against leading universities, including Cambridge and teams from the United States and Italy.
