A 17-year-old student was found hanging at his aunt’s house in Himachal Pradesh’s Una town, with police suspecting that he committed suicide after failing his exams.

The victim has been identified as Pankaj, from Kalyana village of Hamirpur district. He was pursuing Bachelor in Technology from a private institute in Pandoga, they said.

The incident occurred on Friday night in ward number 10 of Baihali Mohalla, when the family members, including his parents, were having dinner, the police said.

They said that, Pankaj’s family kept asking him to come out of his room and join them for dinner but he did not respond.

According to police, when he did not respond even after repeated calls, his family members went to the room and found him hanging with a scarf.

They brought him down and informed the police about the incident, Una Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakesh Singh said.

He said that no suicide note has been found from the spot and the family members’ statements have been recorded.

The scarf which was used to commit suicide has been seized and further investigation in the matter is under, Mr Singh said.

Pankaj’s father is a shopkeeper and mother is a housewife, he added.

Bhagalpur:

A class 10 student died by suicide after allegedly shooting himself with his father’s licenced revolver at his residence in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on Sunday, police said.

The student has been identified as Somil Raj (14), son of Rajeev Kumar Singh, and family members claimed that he was not happy with marks obtained in half-yearly examinations, a senior officer said.

According to police, the boy took the extreme step at his residence in the Anand Vihar Colony under the jurisdiction of Kahalgaon Police Station.

Talking to reporters, Kahalgaon Police Station SHO Dev Guru said, “Immediately after getting the information, a police team reached the spot and sent the body for the post-mortem examination. The revolver and the student’s mobile phone were seized. Investigation is underway.”

“Prime facie it appears that he died by suicide after shooting himself. Preliminary investigations revealed that before taking the extreme step, the minor sent messages to his friends stating that he was ending his life. Family members informed the police that he was not happy with the marks he secured in his half-yearly school examination…in three subjects, he secured less than 50 per cent marks. The matter is being examined,” the SHO said.

Hyderabad:

A Class 11 student, upset after he was barred from taking an exam because he reached late, has died by suicide in Telangana’s Adilabad district.

The body of Tekum Siva Kumar was recovered from Satnala dam this afternoon. A suicide note was found near the landing he must have jumped from. His watch, wallet and other items were found with the note. In his wallet were two photographs – his and his father’s.

The note in Telugu read, “I am sorry, daddy, forgive me. I am not able to cope with this trauma. You have done a lot for me, but I am not able to do anything for you. I have never felt this bad. I have missed the exam for the first time. I am feeling terrible,” the note says.

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed near the dam when the youngster’s body was brought out of the water and his relatives broke down.

About 10 lakh students of the Telangana state education board are taking the intermediate exams that started yesterday. Siva Kumar’s death has brought under the spotlight a strict rule of the Telangana board that a student won’t be allowed to take the test even if he reaches the exam centre a minute late. As the exams started, students were seen running to their exam centres. Many of them, barred from taking the exam because they were late by a few minutes, were seen crying outside and pleading with the examiners to let them in.
