A Delhi to Srinagar bus was attacked with stones near Doraha in Punjab, barely a day after another bus of the same company was targeted in Haryana.

The incident took place on Sunday night (October 18, 2026) when the bus was passing through Doraha in Khanna, said police.

A stone thrown from the roadside smashed a windowpane, sending panic among passengers. However, no one was injured.

As soon as the information reached the police, a police team rushed to the spot and the bus was escorted safely out of Khanna.

Khanna Superintendent of Police (Investigation) R.K. Yadav said an FIR has been registered at the Doraha police station and CCTV footage from nearby dhabas, petrol pumps and toll points is being scanned to trace the miscreants.

The police are treating the case with extra seriousness because the bus belongs to the same transport company whose vehicle was attacked in Haryana’s Karnal on Saturday (October 17).

“Both incidents involve the same operator. We are probing whether there is a link between the two attacks,” Mr. Yadav said.

The police said the Doraha stretch of GT Road has witnessed similar incidents in the past, where trucks and buses have been pelted with stones, often by miscreants taking advantage of darkness and isolated spots.

The back-to-back attacks have raised questions over the safety of night-time inter-state passengers, especially on the busy Delhi-Jammu-Srinagar route.

Investigation is underway to ascertain whether the attack was a case of mischief, extortion, rivalry or a targeted attempt.

The bus resumed its journey to Srinagar after a brief halt under police escort.

A Jammu and Kashmir-bound bus was attacked with stones following a dispute in Haryana’s Karnal district, leaving a passenger and a dhaba employee injured on Saturday (October 17).

The incident drew a reaction from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who said his office had taken up the matter with the Haryana government.

The National Conference and the J&K Apni Party have condemned the demolition.

Srinagar:

Six policemen, including an officer, were among eight injured after an anti-encroachment drive led to members of a nomadic clashing with cops in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district on Saturday.

Bulldozers were used to demolish a mosque allegedly built on state land at Nagri village in the district. Residents of the area, largely Gujjar-Bakarwal nomads, resisted the demolition, clashing with the police and throwing stones at them.

Hundreds of police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the area.

While the Gujjar-Bakarwals have pointed to earlier incidents and accused the district administration of selectively targeting their places of worship, an official said the demolition was part of a routine drive.

“Failure to abide by notices to stop unauthorised construction prompted the action. Notices were served twice earlier, but work continued illegally. Our action against illegal encroachers is a routine drive. We urge the civil society not to misinterpret this issue. It’s our collective responsibility to combat the menace of illegal constructions,” the official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Condemning the demolition, the National Conference has said that the drive is aimed at polarisation ahead of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which are supposed to be held before the end of September, as per a Supreme Court order.

“The JKNC strongly advises the administration against targeting any religious, caste, or community group. The selective targeting of masjids raises serious concerns about possible polarisation before elections”

Urging people to maintain calm, the party has requested the Union Territory’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, to initiate a thorough investigation into the incident.

In a post on X, Syed Altaf Bukhari, President of J&K Apni Party, warned that the incident “threatens the peaceful environment in Jammu and Kashmir” during the Amarnath pilgrimage.

“I warn the administration to desist from such acts against any religion, caste, or creed,” he wrote.
